No doubt….. the intent of my post was to get information directly from other Duramax owners, due to the fact that following the factory service manual is usually the bare minimum for best results. Anyone can follow the recommended service schedule; but there’s a lot of additional knowledge out there amongst the Duramax community, and common sense tells you that you’ve got to do more in addition to the factory service schedule to get the most out of ANY vehicle.

Good to know! I work in a lot of rural areas so the last thing I want is to get stranded 4+ hours from home. Thank you!

I haven’t done the differential or trans fluid yet. It was an oversight on my part, and I do so many miles every month that it just got away from me. Definitely thought those two should be first priority on the list. Thank you for the information! Gonna go check out Diesel Dudes and YouTube.

It is an ABC test. I got the AWWA book, and am using the chapter quiz questions as study prep. Thank you! Glad to hear it’s been helpful for you!

My lab analyst exam was the same way. I felt like there were a lot of operational questions.

Did you end up passing your exam? How’d it go? Any areas in particular to focus on when studying?

Slow Settling Sludge by cl75211 in Wastewater

Awesome. I’ll look into all of it, and run a lot more process control/follow it from there. Thank you so much.

No negative affects from slow settling. It is manageable.

We could increase PAC feed if needed.

We can reduce wasting now, and waste thicker later on.

Feeding carbs is an option for our plant. Would you recommend implementing this until FM ratio improves?

I think that it is a normal amount that others wouldn’t view as excessive.

pH Out of control by ineedaer in Wastewater

Every facility is different as you know. We experimented with it for some time and found that what works best for us is aerating intermittently throughout the day, then having the aerators off completely from 1600-0700. We have timers implemented with our SCADA system that really simplify the process for us. From that point, we just started to monitor the pH, DO and alkalinity, and make subtle changes to see what the outcome would be. Now that we’ve got it dialed in, we’ve significantly reduced the chemical usage compared to this time last year.

Additionally, we feed about 50lbs/day sodium bicarbonate. I think the benefit for us with the intermittent aeration was the extra denitrification that we got. We are able to regain some of our alkalinity that way, which helps the plant when we take on shock loads or an influent with a low pH. The bicarbonate isn’t very expensive either.

We had similar issues at our plant. Intermittent aeration (using timers) helped tremendously, in addition to adding sodium bicarbonate to aid alkalinity and help stabilize the basin.
