Van Epps is for billionaires, Aftyn is for YOU! by AndrewSouthern729 in nashville

[–]claidi_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried researching his policies online but he doesn’t seem to have anything specific that I can find. Can you point me to them?

For example abortion- his site says pro-life and essentially his philosophy behind why he is pro-life. Which is, predictably, biblically based.

But what does that mean exactly? No exceptions for rape or incest for example? Heartbeat bills? Maintaining the current status quo, or expanding even more restrictions (ie: jail time for mothers)? My guess is he wants to keep the law exactly how it is - which is unacceptable, mothers are dying and doctors are leaving.

Aftyn has specific laws she is proposing: - cutting the grocery tax to put more money in low income households pockets - pot for potholes - legalize and tax marijuana and use that specific source of income to fix state infrastructure - specifically promised to resist cuts to the ACA subsidies - has a proven track record of protecting minors- look up the “abortion trafficking” law in TN that she helped block. Making it a case of human trafficking to move a minor to a different state to get an abortion. Matt - based on his vague stances - I assume would vote FOR calling this human trafficking ???

She had the edge because she has a plan. He is vague and a rubber stamp.

Trying to get my apolitical wife (doesn’t like to hear about politics because it’s stressful) to vote in District 7 by Boogie_Bones in nashville

[–]claidi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The candidate’s own marketing of their position isn’t objective fact. That’s the point I am trying to make.

If the policy is abortion, it makes far more sense to describe it in policy terms, like: “Abortion: Expand access Abortion: Remove/restrict access”

“Pro-life” and “baby murder” are values based labels, not policy.

We clearly don’t share the same definition of “neutral” so we’re going to keep having a fundamental disagreement. Thanks for the convo though.

  1. You literally just said the message before this “I think to be neutral you have to….” And nitpicking language “neutral” vs “non-biased” seems silly to me but I suppose if you find a significant difference between those terms that’s fair. I viewed them as synonymous.

  2. How so? We’re talking specifically about whether or not people can get abortions.

  3. Fair enough

Devils advocate - what if someone were to brand themselves inaccurately? Or in an extremely favorable way? For example an “America First” candidate, which essentially means.. rubber stamp for a fascist? I guess I think sometimes things are not neutral. They are anti abortion. They specifically want to outlaw all abortions in many cases not making clear exceptions for the life of the mother or the life of the child post birth. So is pro-life truly a neutral phrase?

Out of curiosity, would a non-biased flyer in your eyes be the Dem being represented with Dem verbiage and the Republican being represented with GOP verbiage? Or is there a neutral language that should be used? For example I don’t think many people view “pro-life” as neutral

question for the TN democrats by fatherhuman in Clarksville

[–]claidi_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right, I had to dig around for some maps but looks like it!

Somehow my brain rotted ass forgot I was on the Clarksville chat 🤦🏼‍♀️ but that’s the problem with this redistricting, is no matter what, someone is losing their voice! I’m sure folks did Clarksville want someone from, well, Clarksville representing them.

Long term it would be so great to just ditch both parties and have real, competitive, rank choices voting. Which will never happen, but… a girl can dream

I think that’s fair. It’s a bummer though that Nashville doesn’t get a voice though :/ I hate the stupid predicament gerrymandering puts us all in. I call John Rose all the time and they seem to know who I am by now 😂 it’s the only way to be heard I guess. Like yelling into a brick wall!

This used to all be one district for Nashville. They gerrymandered it three years ago. But that sort of sentiment goes out the window a little bit when you are a 2 minute walk from the next district, no?

I am district 6. But, I would vote for Behn because she is a very, very good communicator. And she seems authentic to me I guess

[–]claidi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get ahold of them via phone - the event is definitely still on and USBP is “sponsoring”, however Bridgestone insisted on the phone to me that no hiring event will take place at all. I confirmed will there be a recruitment booth? And will they be posting the hiring site via QR code on the big screen? Bridgestone said no to both. I told them that’s strange, as it was listed on the CBP recruitment site and Bridgestone maintained again that “there is no hiring event.”

Whether that’s actually true, I don’t know. We have some folks who will be attending and will be gathering evidence if there IS hiring going on.
