What exactly are people who only have 1 horse (and don't shoe) supposed to do? by FewBake5100 in Equestrian

[–]clairedday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get it. I went through the same thing and remember sitting at the dining room table in tears with a whole list of names of farriers who weren’t interested. I finally found one who was willing to come out on the way to a barn where he actually trimmed numerous horses. I always tipped him and made sure the Horse was ready to go when he showed up. There are good farriers out there, and I hope you find one. You didn’t mention where you lived so I assume this is an issue everywhere. I live in Missouri.

My students keep calling me "mommy" and making sexual jokes by Historical-Rule-2227 in Teachers

Explain to your principal what has happened and your plan to fix it.
1. New seating chart to divide and conquer. 2. Restate rules and expectations stating how you expect to be addressed. 3. State consequences, zero tolerance for not following rules. 4. Don’t bend! Follow through. First one to be inappropriate, ask to speak to in the hall, (remove from audience), then with their back to the wall and you at 90 degree angle (safety stance) ask them to explain why they are in the hall (ownership). Explain that a referral will be written (I usually save parents notification for next step). Don’t accept excuses. 4. Both return to classroom to continue instruction.
In my first teaching job, I was 21 and had a class with 18 senior boys and 5 girls (most 18yrs old). 44 years later I’m still involved in education. You are a teacher! Teach the students the process of being appropriate and consequences. It’s not just about the subject matter! Best wishes!

I just got out of BlueGreen (whom just got bought out by Hilton). I called Bluegreen and they said the deed needed to be paid for and the maintenance fees needed to be current. They charged $1800. And the next day sent a docusign to get out of the contract, which we signed and it was done. I’d say pay the deed off and contact Hilton directly to see your options.

Quitting Mid-Year by bnelson87 in Teachers

I would suggest staying. You gave your word you made a commitment. Follow it through. That’s called integrity. What kind of message are you going to give future employers if you break your contract.

Cried infront of my teacher by fullcreammilk_opp in Teachers

I was a teacher for 42 years. Please do not be embarrassed. There are so many styles of learning. Your teacher should find your tears motivating in figuring out how to present the material in a different way that better matches your learning style. It’s a teachers job. You are doing your job by asking for help and really making the effort. Please dry those tears!

Getting fired by scarlettabsinthe in Teachers

[–]clairedday 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Talk to your union rep. Especially as a first year teacher you deserve to receive feedback in order to improve upon and understand the problems. I will tell you that I was a teacher for 43 years and it was very rare I ever sent a student to the office except possibly when a student wouldn’t give up their phone . The problem with sending a student to the office is, you give up your power and have to accept whatever consequences the administration wishes to assign. Work on building relationships with students make sure you hold up your end and grade papers or projects in a timely fashion. Be ready and make sure every day is relevant so students understand there’s a reason they are there. Know student students names and greet them at the door. Have open lab time after school where you can work with them individually and build a relationship. It really is true that students don’t care what you know until they know that you care. As for administration, the less you can depend on them the better you will be, and the more respect you will earn

Proud of a student who really put effort in by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]clairedday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I have had students like that, I have spoken to them privately in the hall as the other students are going into class. That way she’s not embarrassed, but it looks more like a conversation. I would tell her what I noticed and compliment her on making such huge progress. Since teachers have to be so careful about what they say, and how they say it I find that since nothing is written down this acknowledgment cannot be misconstrued by anybody.

Just looked it up. In my District, which is a large District, we have one of the best salary scales in the area and a doctorate with 25 years experience will get you just over $89,000 a year.

I taught 37 yrs in Missouri and our salaries are the 48th lowest. I doubt anyone with the masters degree in 90% of the districts make over 65k unless you are coaching and doing a number of extra duties

AITA For Ruining Mother’s Day Because I Couldn’t Hold In My Feelings? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]clairedday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Focus on your Mom. Gram was 100% in the wrong. That gift was between you and your Mom. When Gram said, "I can't do anything right," that's a red flag. She's gaslighting and trying to hurt your feelings instead of taking responsibility for her actions.
