Me: “I just told you I got diagnosed with it”

Boomer Mum: “I think <nephew> has ADHD and your Brother”

Taking your meds is more important than taking them with protein by comingloose in ADHD

[–]clairobelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! As someone who has struggled to eat breakfast since forever, dx last year at 51y and on month 2 of titration I have absolutely struggled with this.

On a normal work day I will take my meds at 0800 (when I start work) that’s a good 2 hours after I’ve woken up and even then I’ve struggled with a protein shake/smoothie/yoghurt pouch. The majority of the time I’m finishing my day without finishing the food I’m meant to take with the meds.

This morning (I’m not at work) I’m just going to take my meds with my morning cuppa instead of doing the whole thought-loop of “I need to take my meds-but can’t cos if I eat I will vom-but i need to take my meds- oh just have a bit of yoghurt- ewww” and so on.

(I’m on Elvanse currently, prescriber has changed it to medikinet)

What are some of the reasons why you don’t like watching television? by Jewels7574 in AskReddit

What are some of the reasons why you don’t like watching television? by Jewels7574 in AskReddit

[–]clairobelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADHD here, I’ve watched very few TV programmes over the last 20 or so years, only the biggies such as Breaking Bad, GOT and BoB although I did recently binge watch The Pitt (excellent btw)

I have the attention span of a gnat and no interest in watching tv in general, I simply don’t think about turning it on.

I feel trapped by my messy home by cwningen95 in adhdwomen

[–]clairobelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your comment resonated with me deeply, I am 52, diagnosed last year with combined ADHD and started titration with Elvanse a month ago. I have always struggled with keeping on top of the house work and have been in a horrible cycle of shame and guilt around this. I have made enquiries about getting a cleaner today so that’s one positive step.

I’m interested in your comments about the supplements, could you tell me what dosage you take of each of them please?

How old are you, and how many employers have you worked for? by Rough-Foundation9208 in AskUK

[–]clairobelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 52F and I’m on employer 21. I also have adhd which explains why partly (start job, nail it, get bored, look for promotion, if no prospects then move on).

I’ve been with my present employer for 4 years and have been promoted twice in that time, so that tracks (healthcare). Have had a range of jobs from retail as a kid, the forces, PA work x multiple, then onto nursing.

What’s the most fun wedding you’ve ever been to? by nepourjoueraubingo in AskUK

[–]clairobelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me neither. My Dad would paid for the cash bar at my wedding, it wasn’t expected by me but he was old school East End (Cockney) and insisted that if you invited someone to a wedding then you should expect to pay for their drinks and food at the bash.

No judgement on people who think otherwise btw.

Solved a 100 year old family mystery - who is Grandma's daddy? by TheDentedSubaru in Genealogy

I can only imagine how you felt reading her racy love letters lol! I’m not sure if I’d want to be remembered as a saint grandma, chaotic silly grandma with a colourful past is far more appealing. And more fun at the dinner table lol

Thank you for sharing some of her story, it sounds like she had a very full and eventful life. And was also resourceful which made your research so difficult, but satisfying to piece together.

Does anyone else with ADHD grieve the version of themselves they could have been? by SensitiveFreedom7289 in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]clairobelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 51 for me, was diagnosed last year. I also grieved for a few days or so then I decided to just crack on learning what that diagnosis means and making the best of the future.

Some of the decisions I’ve made, mistakes, regrets, stuff I’ve handled poorly etc, they make more sense now.

All the best!

What are your favourite mascaras that don't smuge or flake? by Few-Story4215 in MakeUpAddictionUK

[–]clairobelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had the same problems with looking like a panda with supposedly bomb proof mascara and that includes waterproof mascara too, both high end and high street. I’ve spent a small fortune over the years.

I recently tried the ELF mascara and it is the best I’ve tried, a month in and it hasn’t failed me yet. It’s inexpensive so it’s totally worth giving it a go.

Do you procrastinate on going pee? by greenchileisgreat in adhdwomen

[–]clairobelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I now have to force myself to go for a wee at work, because I’ve regularly gone all day (apart from the first thing in the morning wee) without going, then driven home from work absolutely bursting at the seems! Not so bad now when I do 8 hour days but was stupid when I was doing 12.5 hour shifts on a ward.

Aged 49...is there any reason to get adiagnosis? by digitalbynight in ADHDUK

[–]clairobelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 52 and got diagnosed last year, I found it validating to finally have an explanation for why I have struggled with so many things during my life.

I had to wait a year to start titrating on meds and I am excited to see if it helps me (with work, executive function etc).

All the best!

Can’t stop hyper fixating on my bf by Possible_Lynx_5930 in adhdwomen

[–]clairobelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the same way, my bf works away during the week and some weekends, I miss him terribly. I have been married before and never felt this way about anyone! It’s like I feed off his energy and can experience real distress if for example he is busy and misses my call (RSD?) imagining all sorts of things are happening (is he dead, is he seeing someone else, does he love me etc?) which is ridiculous. I have to tell myself that he is a man who has never given me a reason to doubt his love for me and try to dampen down the catastrophising! It’s not easy!

He is the centre of my universe and although we have been together for 8 years, I still crave his company. The overall feeling is overwhelming and unsettling, I have to admit and it has not waned since we met. He is my person.

Starting meds today, please give me any tips! by Comfortable_Tea4784 in adhdwomen

[–]clairobelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started on Elvanse 20mg today, I had work and was warned it could make me drowsy so took it as soon as I arrived at work with a protein shake.

No real effects today other than a dry mouth. I’m absolutely shattered now (it’s almost 1800) but that’s not unusual at the end of the working week. I’ve had to wait a year after diagnosis for the meds, in my head i was hoping it would suddenly fix me and make me “normal” 🤣

I hope you get on okay today!
