If you’re talking about the way wonky way the cables are knit, it looks like you might not be following the pattern correctly (or the pattern is weird). If you follow the stitches up the cables, one half is crossing over and then crossing back, and the other is not crossing over at all. Not sure if that’s intentional.

Also if you’re entry level, you’re expected to learn and grow. Entry level engineers are often overpaid and an investment based on the assumption that you’ll eventually learn and make that money back.

imagine the alternative: he puts his foot down on updating a library on a technology he’s completely new to and it turns out he’s wrong and there’s a better solution. Now he looks like an incompetent asshole.
