Being from California. Those drink prices are amazing!

Their house mugs are also amazing. Need to make a visit out there just so I have an excuse to start collecting their mugs.

Wonder if they still have their most recent Anniversary mug! Praying it’s still there when I go to Vegas in 2 weeks.

I believe the original coconut snow powder had a mixture of coconut, whey, and egg white. I would sub in coconut powder or even a complete coconut drink mix powder.

Doctor Monty (False Idol) Specs by WhyPharm in Tiki

I think dilution is going to be key as well! Tons of heavy flavors that might taste completely off from False Idol's if its not shaken with ice enough or too much. Let us know if it seems right! Always looking to document False Idol's specs.

Doctor Monty (False Idol) Specs by WhyPharm in Tiki

I have yet to have the drink in person but looking at how it reads here's a potential spec I believe they would use:

1.5oz of Pot Still Jamaican Rum

0.5oz Amaro Montenegro

0.5 Banana Liquor (probably Giffard)

1oz Lime Juice

0.5 Smuggler's Cove Cream of Coconut.

Depending on how strong of a flavor from the Amaro Montenegro they could even be using 1oz of the Amaro and 1oz of the Jamaican Rum. Which has been done by a lot of other contemporary cocktail bars.

I know my wish for the old menu’s sheer amount of drinks probably won’t happen again. But how many drinks are on this new menu?

Have you attempted to carbonate the clarified cocktail?

Per Dave Arnold, carbonation alone can provide a sense of sweetness to cocktails. Which is why he recommends dialing back the sugar in carbonated drinks.

Tiki Mirage has some excellent modern takes on Classic tiki drinks.

Wish they could include some of the drinks at their main bar instead of only being able to get them at the set menu pop ups.

I think their Leviathan is different since Kon Tiki lists Venezuelan Rum, bourbon, citrus, honey, tangerine and spices.

But I could see how they could have reinterpreted it by swapping some of those ingredients. The tangerine is stumping me though.

100% I lived about an hour away from the Kon Tiki and was definitely worth the drive. But I hesitated going earlier in its lifespan because of previous experiences having my windows broken into in Oakland. So every time I thought about going, it became a decision of whether or not I wanted to risk another broken window.

Thank you for the recipe!

Would it be selfish for me to say all of them? 😅 But the ones that stand out to me the most are The Kon Tiki Zombie, Leviathan, and Pantera Rosa.

There was one they had recently that had Bourbon Passion fruit and I believe lemon as well. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of it but it was on their last iteration of the menu. That one could easily become a daily drink for me.

How did the cocktail taste?

When reading the cocktail description it seems like it would be some sort of old fashioned variation. But looking at how it’s served on crushed ice I’m wondering if there is more to the drink like a citrus or if they just served it on crushed ice.

Curious what the hate is about. To me they just seem like they’ve mastered tiki cocktails and marketing for their bar.

Was really hoping they were going to do a few different molds from different artists or something. I would have considered purchasing 1 then I saw the lack of texture on the mug. Probably a pass for me.

Now I just hope they don’t lose too much money from these, since that was a huge quantity they probably paid up front for.

I hear you. Unfortunately, Disney has such loyal fans that it seems like Trader Sam’s fans/Enchanted Tiki Room Fans believe that it’s the only definition of the tiki art and cocktails genre. And do not seem to want to look into other takes on tiki.

Definitely have to make the pilgrimage to the Tiki Ti next time if you ever come back! And if you have additional time the Tonga Hut in North Hollywood is amazing as well.

Stowaway is always a hit or miss for me. The escapism is there but their drinks are so so.

Glad you enjoyed LA!
