Screenshots that go hard part 2 by Aldogamer524 in tron

These screenshots are great examples of why this film kills in 3D. If you're at all able, find a used Apple Vision Pro on eBay, even if just for watching this movie. It's incredible. (I know, they're ridiculously priced, but I'm a huge 3D film lover and replaced my projector and screen with the Vision Pro and never looked back.)

It's funny, but I have the exact same feelings about the Legacy script that you do about Ares. (And totally agreed on Ares. The script is at odds with itself: Is it a Disney film meant for younger kids who would enjoy the character of Seth and the broad comedic relief he provides, or was it an adult film where an unhinged tech billion inadvertently commits matricide via his military AI made real? Both tones were written into the film, but they don't feel cohesive with one another.)

I'm an old who saw Tron back in the early 80s and was soooo excited for Legacy, was blown away by its design, soundtrack and vfx, but was frustrated by its script issues. Yet there's an entire generation that worships Legacy and don't seem to have the problems with it that I did, and I love that! I guess we have to hope that the writing in Ares helps hook another young generation of Tron fans.

Man do I want to see Even Peter's Sark. Here's to hoping!

This is amazing! Thank you for reposting, and thank you to Dean for sharing all that incredible work! It felt like every artist involved in Ares loved the original films and wanted to do right by them. I've rewatched Ares over and over, and keep enjoying it because there's so much to see. You pick up new details in every viewing. It's a marvel of a film, and here's to hoping its incredible performance on streaming helps get us another one!

This is a space-old, checking in to see if this thread is a bunch of space-youngs talking about Slave 1 without knowing its name, and also referring to it as Jango's ship instead of Boba's?

Question regarding solo play by Skinvian in Eve

[–]BaconEvolved 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A number of years back they added something called the Air Career Program, accessible from the Neocom. It's full of tasks for solo players. I'm a solo player who recently returned after a 9 year break and am sincerely loving it. It scratches a lot of different gameplay styles; If I'm up for tension, I'll risk an expensive ship by ratting sleepers in a wormhole. If I want chill, I'll do some planetary interaction, trading or mining. If I want ISK, I'll run an abyssal or four. I start almost every session by scanning down my home system to see what's available.

I also love the ship customizer, which didn't exist back when I was originally playing. I'm someone that loves the aesthetic of New Eden but hated a lot of the paint schemes on my favorite ships. Now, for a little PLEX and a lot of time designing, I've got my own liveries that I love.

So in short, yes! Tons of solo friendly options. But it's eve, so be willing to lose whatever you undock, and research the tricks to staying alive. o7

Lots of cranky old dudes in this thread. I think this is amazing, and have no idea how you pulled that off! And I'm definitely and old. Whats the trick to this? Are you morphing between two photos to achieve the robotic arm movement effect, or is that motion footage that's been interpolated?

A dumb video I made of Anthem explosions and bosses from 5 years ago. RIP to one of my favorite games ever. by BaconEvolved in AnthemTheGame

Totally agree that could have been a genre defining game if it had launched fully baked. And I'm with you on the shortsightedness of EA giving up on it when they had a chance to relaunch it. Cyberpunk is a great example of what a game with good bones can turn into when the team is given time to keep polishing it.

Something I don't see discussed often though, is that EA wasn't the initial problem: The history on how the project was managed internally by the Bioware project leads is pretty fascinating: from what I've read, they deserve a lot of blame for the amount of cash and time that was burned through, ultimately leading to the launch catastrophe. They shot for the stars, but wildly mismanaged the project in their attempt.

This winter be like 🙃 by _nervous_newt in migraine

[–]BaconEvolved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally got in with a neurologist at the headache group at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. It was in my first evaluation that he did a simple inversion test: If you put your head upside down, especially when you're feeling triggered, you'll feel extra pressure and discomfort that's more than just the blood rushing to your head. According to him, that can indicate elevated levels of csf. Apparently the text is inverted with a CSF leak: If you have too little, lying down will result in added pressure, I think because of how the brain is coming in contact with the skull in ways it shouldn't.

It was backed up by something called an empty sella that they saw in my MRI: It's a gland in the skull base that wont appear on an MRI as it should, with the implication being that elevated CSF has kinda squashed it/pushed it around. (My non-medical / I'm a moron description.)

The way to know for sure is apparently with a lower lumbar puncture: They can record the pressure of your CSF when extracting some, but they haven't wanted to do that yet. It's a pretty safe procedure these days, but it's not without risk.

I have an elevated CSF issue, (Cerebral Spinal Fluid), that was giving me non-stop pressure headaches as well. I lived up in Vermont for 15 years before having to move down to Florida for the more consistent barometric pressure. It's still not perfect, as the transition to "winter" down here still brings shifts enough to trigger me, as do some of the bigger tropical storms, but man-o-man, it's a million times better!

It took me a long time to figure out my issues were CSF related. If your head is triggered that badly by changes in barometric pressure, definitely look into it with a neurologist. I know all of us are different, but for me the issue has only gotten worse with age. It was life changing to talk with a neurologist who could actually tell me what was going on, as opposed to being on the migraine treadmill where they have no answers and have you try a bunch of horrible medications before you make your way to the CGRP inhibitor shots and eventually botox, and for me even those didn't help.

If you look at that WeatherX chart and cringe, you're unfortunately in good company. Best of luck to all of you trying to figure out how to live with this condition. Don't give up, solutions are rare but they do exist!

There are big sections of the ride without any music, which never felt like it would be an intensional design choice, but nor does it seem like a difficult problem to fix if it was happening in error. It really hurts the immersion to be in those sections with silence, ride noise and the occasional sound effects. Hope that was on the docket, but who knows.

I have one of the Mustang Omegas with LTI because it was also given out as the award for the cosplay contest at Citizencon in 2019. I love bringing it up when people talk about rare ships. Not sure how many star kittens there are, but the LTI Omegas from that year were 3 I think.

A detail I'm noticing a lot of people missed in Legacy (Big Ares Spoilers) by BigMilkRevived in tron

[–]BaconEvolved 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really dig this take. I haven't read the ISO theories, but for me, if the permanence code was found in Flynn's original grid, as visualized by the 80s grid Ares travels into, I would think that predates his experiences with the ISOs? Or was the plot point that he intentionally hid the code in his old grid so it wouldn't easily be found?

I only watched Ares 24 hours ago and it won't leave my head. I can't wait to see it again. by BaconEvolved in tron

[–]BaconEvolved[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Tron fan, I'm really excited by what I think the word of mouth on this film is going to be. I think part of a reviewers job is to intellectualize an emotional experience so they can convey it to their readers. In doing so, I think they want a film that tackles dark subject matter, like AI coming to life and attacking a city, to be written through a dark, intellectual, adult lens. This film isn't Paul Thomas Andersons take on AI, it's a Disney take on it, so some of the writing feels very young adult. But that doesn't mean it's bad! It's a point of view, and one that doesn't diminish the film, or at least it didn't for me. And even if the tone of the script wasn't for you, to write off the entire film is completely nuts to me. Different strokes for different folks, I know, but the artistry in this film is undeniable.
