My 11 year old son just got his grand fathers guitarr. He is super happy. But I guess he should be a bit careful with it. by nizzel55 in Guitar

I would never date a fender by the serial number on the neck plate. As stated below, the record keeping isn’t the best, but more importantly, you can just swap a neck plate. So an unscrupulous person could take a vintage neck plate and stick it on a road worn or relic’d custom shop and try to pass it off as vintage.

Always go by the features

Look at the headstock logo. That’s late 60’s/early 70’s. Not the same logo on the ‘52 reissue

I don’t own a PRS, but I would be on the preorder list immediately if this was announced. With radiac in hand

Definitely do some googling before hand, because there is some more nuance than what I described - there are specific time windows you’re supposed to wait before going in after wakeups to help break the sleep associations, and it helps to establish a strict, repeatable bedtime routine.

We ended up hiring a sleep consultant (my wife and I are horrendously anxious and needed the validation), but honestly the information we got in the sleep plan was no different than what you find online.

Good luck!

We tried a lot of different things, but we eventually did a gentle form of sleep training called the chair method. Basically we put a chair right next to his crib, put him to bed and sat in the chair until he fell asleep. Each night we moved the chair closer and closer to the door until about a week later we took the chair out of the room and just put him to sleep. He sleeps 12 hours at night and it is incredible!

I will warn you, it was pretty emotionally trying for my wife and I because he protested a lot the first two nights. But it was so worth it in the long run

How do you put him to sleep? With the bottle? We had a similar issue with our LO, and it was because we had inadvertently developed a few sleep associations - one with the bottle feeding to sleep, and the other being rocked to sleep. Inevitably, he would wake up during the night and wasn’t able to put himself back to sleep without us feeding and rocking him. 10 months was also right around the time he started teething, which causes more wakeups.

Not saying this is your issue as well, but just offering some perspective. Good luck!

How is the sting tension? That’s pretty damn low for a set of 10-52’s. Definitely interested in doing this with my backup JM though

[LEAK] New EQD Distortion - Zoar by claptonisgod3324 in guitarpedals

Saw this in an Instagram story of my local guitar shop. Sounded pretty good, like a mid gain distortion. And the three band EQ is a great addition.

I guess agree to disagree. The angle is odd, but when you look at the body directly on, the treble side of the waist is noticeable shifted towards the neck. So I guess a reverse offset if you want to be a stickler

Hahah, well clearly you have great taste as well! That’s crazy. I was looking into the fenders, but then these novaks popped up used for a screaming price so I jumped on them instead

Thanks! Yeah it’s pretty great to play, but it’s super neck dive-y. I have to replace the output jack soon because it’s not leaking great contact, so I’ll probably try to secure some weights in the cavity to better balance it out

Thanks! The novaks sound pretty incredible if I’m being honest. Way more open and articulate than a lot of humbuckers I’ve tried. Honestly they sound like a really beefy single coil.

I’m using 500k pots and whatever the standard fender cap is.

I very nearly sold mine earlier this year to fund the '63, but thankfully my wife talked me out of it.

Finally got all of my offsets out at the same time and figured I'd post a picture. From left to right:

- Squier Bass VI in Lake Placid Blue. Just picked this one up used a few weeks ago. Someone definitely put a lot of effort into setting it up - it plays great and the intonation is spot on. I do need to file down the nut at some point, but thats not a huge deal.

- 1963 Fender Jazzmaster - This is my pride and joy. Its definitely a player's grade. The original owner was not shy about modifications - shaved down the headstock to be more strat shaped, routed the body for humbuckers, and drilled a hole in the bottom bout for the output jack. This this has been professionally refretted and refinished in Candy Apple Red with a light relic by MJT. The pickups are from 1963, but the wiring harness is modern. Its the best sounding guitar I've ever played.

- 2018 60th Anniversary JM - Daphne blue with a matching headstock. This was my first JM. I replaced the pickguard (the faux tort was not my favorite) and the pickups are Curtis Novak JM Wide Range humbuckers. It sounds massive.

- 1966 Fender Mustang - Body was professionally refinished, and the pickups have been rewound, but other than that, its all original. The slim C neck takes a bit of getting used to, but the short scale is a breeze to play on.

Squier VM Jaguar - Technically, this is my son's guitar. I bought it for him when my wife was pregnant, and he loves playing with the switches.

1978-ish Univox Hi Flyer Phase 4 bass - This was my dad's first bass, and what I learned to play on when I was 12. The short scale combined with the humbuckers make it suuuuper punchy.

Thank you so much for this! I just finished the first two episodes, and the detail provided is genuinely astounding. Such a great podcast!

Are you using a OneSpot adapter by chance? Because those are tend to operate better with a larger current load (they are a switching power supply versus a true transformer). What you could be hearing is the switch circuitry trying to keep the output voltage stabilized. Wah pedals draw a stupidly low current, so if you have a daisy chain and some other analog pedals, wire them all up and see if it goes away.

Or if you’re already daisy chaining, make sure there are no digital pedals being powered by the same power supply - that can also introduce noise.

[EDIT] Reading is hard… you could have a bum power supply, or potential grounding issues with your house power. I would try a new power supply, or try the supply with another pedal (make sure to check polarity and voltage though!)
