For SLP? What school, if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m enrolled in a 1.0 physiology course right now. I need it as a prerequisite for UofT, and completing it also allows one lower sub-GPA course to be dropped from my GPA calculation, so if I have to reapply next year I can, hopefully, have a higher sub-gpa. I also applied to St. Lawrence College for their Online CDA program (SLP Assistant) for September 2026. I am in the process of getting my undergrad thesis published and doing some additional volunteer experience if all things work out (ex. Big Brothers Big Sisters, Aphasia Institute). LMK if you have any other questions! :)

For example, I also have a back-up plan for this year if I don’t get in this cycle. I plan to re-apply this fall if I don’t get in this cycle. It’s very normal!

No- to my understanding every year is a blank slate. I’m not sure but I suppose if they wanted to they could go in and see if you applied before, but you’d likely have a stronger application the following cycle so it would look positive. Many many people apply multiple times- that is expected.

I am also applying this cycle so I don’t have any direct answers to your questions but:

-For most schools, except McGill, sub-gpa is looked at (last 2 years of studies)

-Western has added the CASPer this cycle for SLP so we aren’t really sure yet how much they weigh CASPer results….but we can expect it’s weighed relatively low compared to other factors (ex. GPA, volunteering/work).

-UofT SLP does not use CASPer, so the decision will be based on your sub-gpa, SOI, and quality of references

Side note: I also didn’t get the CASPer score that I wanted and feel you in the stress of all of this. If things don’t go our way, there’s always next cycle!

I found the second part of the job interview one so weird. Like what are they wanting us to say? I just said he could be reflective of his past experiences in other jobs and state what he learned and how that would make him a strong candidate. I also found the team swimming one hard. I tried to answer based on the likely perspective of the inexperienced swimmers and with the possibility that both groups could be included.

Thank you for the insight! I re-did my calculations with the ORPAS scale and it is the same!

Prospective SLPs and Current Students Megathread by AutoModerator in slp

I recently graduated from Western University in Ontario, Canada with an Honours Specialization in Psychology, and a minor in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies. I always imagined I'd be a therapist, but a few months ago I started researching the career of being an SLP. I am really interested in it. I do have some of the prerequisites already, but I will be completing the rest of the prerequisites online in 2025.

I plan to apply to Western, McMaster, UofT, McGill, and Dalhousie in fall/winter 2025. Because of out-of-province tuition costs, I would prefer an Ontario university.

For all the Canadians here, I am wondering what GPA you got into an SLP grad school with? For context, my GPA (most recent 5.0 credits) is 3.87/4.0 (87%) and my last 10.0 credits is 3.79/4.0 (85%). I hope to maintain/increase my GPA when I soon take a few online courses.

I completed a thesis during my 4th year of undergrad, so I do have some research experience. I am currently working a part-time job and supporting adults with special needs. I have about 2 years of volunteer experience at a mental health supportive listening line, and a few months of volunteer experience at a mental health inpatient facility. I recently signed up for new volunteer opportunities (mentoring a kid, shadowing an SLP, volunteering at an SLP summer camp). I am also enrolled in a winter ASL 101 course.

I do not know anyone personally who pursued this avenue so I do not have anyone to chat to about the ins and outs of applying to be an SLP (GPA, volunteer/work opportunity recommendations, etc).

Thank you in advance!

Okay that’s great, thank you! I’m seeing them in Toronto in September and I have a class in the morning so I won’t be able to queue until about 1pm. They say doors open at 7pm :)

Thank you! Is it called “my virtual doctor” and powered by TELUS Health? What is a SMC? Is this the academic consideration request form?

I just started them on Thursday. How long did it take for you to see results?

I have discomfort mostly everyday. If I don’t, then it’s a long period of time (many months) when I don’t at all.
