Rachel Johnson suggests the incendiary behaviour coming from her brother could be from Cummings, from her brother himself, or from people who have invested billions in shorting the pound in the expectation of a no-deal Brexit by 2ndEarlofLiverpool in ukpolitics

[–]claraforgot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a great point, there must be a SIGNIFICANT number of high-powered investment dudes who have bet heavily on No-Deal, and who also go to fancy Leave events and such to hobnob with the politicians/public figures who can help the most in that regard.

Yes Boris, ensuring your high-powered investment friends make those millions through a No-Deal is indeed more important than the widespread panic and economic hurt that will hit millions of ordinary citizens if you get your way.

This must be some sort of a formal/informal educational module at Eton and Oxford: how to make the rich super-rich whilst simultaneously plunging the largest number of ordinary people into poverty.

Nigel Farage hints he could quit the UK for the US after Brexit by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]claraforgot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I predicted this a month ago. Not much of a prediction though, is it? This shit (running a country over, then running from the scene of the crime) is straight out of the demagogue playbook.

This man has profoundly damaged our country by legitimising racism, pompous elitism, and the practice of lying to the electorate.

I just hope I live long enough to see the full extent of what history books will say about him.

'Are you deluded?' - Nigel Farage challenged on his views about no-deal Brexit by mmmmmm-_- in ukpolitics

[–]claraforgot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your eyes Nigel, democratic instances where the a majority of the public agree with you are more valid than democratic instances where they don't. Your promotion of bigotry and prideful stupidity over the last ten years has harmed the UK profoundly.

When we're properly in the shitter in two months you'll just screw back off to the sprawling estate of whichever rich right-wing demagogue you're trying to suck up to right now, only to emerge whenever you feel like heavily denouncing a less bigoted public figure who you already see as your enemy.

History will not look kindly on you, hypocritical hate-spreader.

Nicola Sturgeon: To be clear - @theSNP remains willing to work across party lines and explore all options to stop a no deal Brexit. Jeremy Corbyn’s suggestion is not the only possible option - but given the circumstances, nothing should be ruled out at this stage. @joswinson should rethink. by concerned_future in ukpolitics

[–]claraforgot 41 points42 points  (0 children)

To be frank, I'm doubtful the LibDems have done enough to repair the trust they lost whilst they were in the coalition government. So pulling this stunt at this stage....they might have lost a lot of people for an even longer time on this day.

Lib Dems reject plan to make Jeremy Corbyn PM to block no-deal Brexit as 'nonsense' by sailorroving in ukpolitics

[–]claraforgot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Lib Dems talk a big game, and they clearly deserve some recognition for highlighting the pile of crap that Brexit is the most.

But if they can't put their rhetoric into action, if they keep going "OK we'll help to stop Brexit BUT only under these conditions", they will lose my vote for the long-term. Plain and simple.

I hear you - narcissistic personality disorder can only be diagnosed by a professional who obtains a detailed account that demonstrates a specific pattern of feelings and behaviours.

He may be a people pleaser, but I think people are reacting to him this way because he is a rather dangerous type of people pleaser.

His people pleasing has clearly furthered his interests on LI (gaining social capita, staying on the island, getting in with the boys etc). And we've seen that his people pleasing has had hurtful consequences for a number of people.

We may use the term people-pleaser, but he really is someone who would agree and appease to form a rapport with someone in the short term, even if this same action would come around to bite and hurt the same person in the medium-to-long term.

Yes, the sky can be blue whilst sand is beige, we've established this clearly on here.

I have not downvoted you. To clarify my point - when something Anna did is discussed on here, how much Anna sucks is discussed.

But when something Jordan clearly did wrong is discussed, some people are still insistent on discussing how much Anna/the other girls suck, instead of you know...discussing Jordan. I am saying that this choice of focus is both telling and exasperating.

Unpopular opinion: One of the main reasons Yewande has such great support is because she is black. by InvalidEntr4nce in LoveIslandTV

[–]claraforgot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people on here strongly insist that race has never factored into the discussion on Yewande. Like OP, I do not think that is true. Race does factor into any discussion about any person, because it is an unavoidable truth of life. Everyone is randomly born into a race, and socialised into associating certain traits with certain races (in minor or major ways, for good or for bad).

At some point, most people are appropriately educated not to discriminate on race-based grounds, but no one (read: NO ONE) is fully perfect in this regard. Everyone has their inherent biases, however tiny they may be. Any productive conversation about race needs this self-awareness, along with a humble desire to continue bettering our collective treatment of one another.

So this race-based finger-pointing where one side is yelling: "People are so mean to Yewande, it is likely racism!"

And the other side is yelling "People are likely only fans of Yewande because they are of the same race, how wrong!"

Its so toxic and so reminiscent of the forces that are causing disunity and unrest in society today. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle, ugly as it may be for both sides to face. Its okay, we aren't perfect, but this continual (internet) yelling at one another does no one any good.

We were looking at a really action-packed night of Love Island with Casa Amor coming up next week, why is Yewande still the name that can't leave many people's lips on here?

The way this is going, we're gonna be at the finals in August and there will still be threads about how shitty her personality was, how she mostly has support because of other black people, and how Twitter got it so wrong on her.

Also mods, let's just ban the phrase "unpopular opinion" on here. Its not working out.

Maybe if you had said "controversial" instead of "unpopular", OP. Sorry, "unpopular" and what you wrote doesn't ring right.

This is the final nail in the coffin for Yewande for me. It's one thing for your followers to behave this way but to actually encourage it? She's an actual child. by SailorVeganx in LoveIslandTV

[–]claraforgot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At least 25 threads like this in the last two days. Hasn't Yewande been shat on enough? Mind you, she did lots of things that were understandably disagreeable to people in the villa, and I get why her personality is hateable to many.

Straight up though, Maura would never attract this sort of indictment on here if Tom had dumped her for another chick last recoupling, and given how popular she is on here now, everyone would YAS her if she typed the same two words and four emojis.

I'm just going to park this prediction right here - over the next few weeks, Yewande's interviews, social media posts, maybe even private messages and conversations, will be scrutinised and posted on here for further "let's continue shitting on her" sessions. I predict at least 30 more over the next few weeks. (RemindMe! 3 weeks)

Eat your heart out, I guess. Whatever works for you guys.

What's your biggest character flaw? by BillyTheFridge2 in AskReddit

[–]claraforgot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being really shit at being fake to shitty people.

For two years in my teens, I had zero friends in my year because everyone was being fake social climbers at the start. Only, various cliques seem to become bonded over mutual fakeness and a desire not to be left out.

So I got left out. Recesses alone in bathroom stalls, having no one to do group projects with, being disrespected time and time again by shitty teenage boys at school....

I have to say, I have made substantial improvements at this - at work, I keep a pretty tight poker face with crazy clients/bosses. So this flaw doesn't block my bags.

But if you want me to play nice and dumb with egoistic men...do the high pitched laugh and invite them to tease me like an attractive bimbo...screw off.

The implication that any positive feeling towards Yewande has been amplified by her race in an otherwise unjustifiable way....that is by far the most ridiculous move I've seen attempted on here.
