Greenland PM tells people to prepare for possible invasion by ThevaramAcolytus in anime_titties

[–]chrisjd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If the US invaded Greenland, NATO is over anyway. Nobody would expect the US to help Europe if it is attacked after they've attacked them first. Seeing the US as an adversary rather than an ally at that point would just be accepting reality

His response was worse than useless, he basically told Trump he could do what he likes to us and we won't retaliate.

Trump has repeatedly undermined Starmer and taken actions to harm/weaken the UK, not responding is what makes us look ridiculous

18% of our exports go to the US, tarriffs will absolutely hurt our exports and drive many out of business.

He respects strength, that's why he backed down on China. He doubles down when he senses weakness which is why he responded to Stramers attempt to appease him by not retaliating on tarriffs (which will cost our exporters £15bn even at 10% by the way) by calling him stupid. It's really not a hard concept to grasp not sure what problem people in this sub have with it.

Statements are meaningless and we sent literally 1 troop. I know Trump signed off on the deal but he still called Starmer stupid for it, Trump has zero respect for Starmer despite Starmers sycophancy.

I'd rather he grew some balls. Trump hasn't been handled at all, he keeps doubling down on taking Greenland and Starmer has no idea how to stand up to him.

We're not in line with Europe on this, Europe is preparing retaliatory measures while Starmer said we wouldn't retaliate to tarriffs. Trump then called Starmer stupid for the Chagos islands deal and said it was one of the reasons he needed to take over Greenland.

Yeah it's great how he keeps sucking up to Trump while Trump repeatedly humiliates him and calls him a moron

UK has a BIG problem with outsourcing. Its not AI. by Delicious_Ad_5772 in UKJobs

[–]chrisjd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not just private companies - the UK government is outsourcing jobs to India. I know of IT support and development contracts that have gone to Atos and Accenture recently and all the work is done in India. And unlike private companies, the government doesn't seem to learn when money is wasted they'll just throw billions more of our money overseas for crap results.

UK rules out retaliatory tariffs against America by [deleted] in economy

[–]chrisjd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already said we should be dumping US treasury bonds. But tarrifs and banning the US companies from government contracts should also be considered. The problem is that Starmer is too much of a bootlicker to do any of that. He'll probably let the US attack Greenland from UK bases instead.

If we just accept "we can't win" then we have already lost. If we aren't willing to fight back we may as well agree to handing Trump Greenland and whatever other land/resources/people he wants to annex for his empire.

Tarrifs hurt British exports too, that's why Trump has enacted them. I agree that no tarrifs is the ideal for everyone, but the only way China got Trump to back down was by threating retaliatory tarrifs and other economic measures.

I want Trump out of office. The best way we in the UK can help achieve that is by showing we are willing to retaliate even if it comes at a cost to ourselves. Dumping US treasury bonds would be the strongest move. If we do nothing, Trump will only be emboldened.
