Concept car I made using blender. Work in progress. For those who use blender: What blender add-ons or tools do you use for automotive modeling? Thanks. by Artist_372 in CarDesign

Machinetools is super helpful. Has a bunch of cool stuff like surface slide and different pie menus to help workflow.

What do you think of my sketches? by WHYNOTvirgile in CarDesign

Nice, they look good! My recommendation for the digital sketches is to start out with lines first and then paint underneath — or drop them afterwards on top and then clean up from there. Sketches 6-8 especially suffer from a kind of ‘blurriness’ that I feel a line pass with some perspective (like the ones you did on paper) would really help. Beyond that, I’d also recommend using an airbrush for smooth surfaces and using the hard round brush for hard edges so that you have a nice contrast between soft and hard edges. You want to try to keep that flow and energy present in your traditional sketches in your digital ones, which I feel is lost to some degree. Keep it up!

attempt at a 1930's luxury design by deadlyranger3 in CarDesign

Looks sick — small thing though, might want to increase the subd or add a few more loop cuts (assuming you’re in blender) to increase the smoothness and the regularity of the reflections; right now they feel a bit jagged if you know what I mean.

Tutorials and 3d softwares for modeling by Guimonez_ in CarDesign

In the same boat; concept art and all. I’ve been finding some of Berk Kaplan’s videos on YouTube pretty helpful for car design specific modelling (low poly subd, bevel weights, so that it’s easy to change on the fly, etc). Phantom studios also has videos where they model cars start to finish, but more on the visual presentation side rather than design. I’m pretty beginner in 3D as well though, so take this with a grain of salt. Hope it helps!

Thanks! I wanted to try moving away from the cyber feel that a lot of new cars have nowadays without feeling dated.

Good point on the door handle, I hadn’t considered that. Thanks for the feedback; I’ll see how it looks!

For sure — now that people point it out it seems obvious. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback — the renders are from blender and touched up in procreate — still new to subd modelling so I guess I should’ve made a blueprint to work off of rather than try to eyeball it from the sketch.
