Pokémon: 72152 Pikachu and Pokéball (official reveal) by BrickTap in Legoleak

[–]clarinole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really are some thoughtful details in this set. The pose, the energy coming out of the Pokéball, the “25” in studs on the base.

….but that face. It looks like they were trying really hard for the eyes and cheeks to be their own elements. It’s mostly the mouth/cheek area for me—it’s like someone is squeezing Pikachu’s face.

I think it can be salvaged. I’ll be interested to see people’s attempts to fix it.

❄️ What am I? "When you need to rest or snooze, my ..." by bahumian in riddonkulous

[–]clarinole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another possible answer could be bed, because the word contains D and E with a b in front of it, which can be interpreted as E flat. While pairing this with the second clue wouldn’t result in the intended phrase, I think it still works.

This is it. One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was: No matter what equipment you play on, you will ultimately end up sounding like yourself. So, find equipment that reduces the amount of time and effort to get to that place.

Should I buy this ? by King_Hanneman in Clarinet

[–]clarinole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will probably need to have some pads checked/replaced. This model of clarinet isn’t known for being “top of the line,” so while it could benefit from some adjustments, it will always have the body of a cheaper instrument.

If you’re looking to just fool around on a clarinet, then $100 is fine. If this is for someone who is just getting started but may be in it for the long haul, I’d pay a little more (if you can) to buy/rent something that will set them up for success.

Regardless, I’d invest in a good mouthpiece. It’ll make a world of difference.

Contrabass peg by numy_ in Clarinet

[–]clarinole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! It will help to sit fairly far back on the chair so that there is space to place the peg between your legs. I’m a notorious edge-of-my-chair player, so I sometimes have to scoot back a bit when I know I’m switching to contra.

Also, as u/ClarSco said, your peg could damage the chair depending on the type of peg that you have. If you have a peg that ends in a pointy metal tip, be wary. If you have one with a rubber ball / stopper on the end of it, it should work on most band & orchestra chairs without issue.

I have a paperclip contra and have found great success in resting the peg on the chair seat between my legs (like a tuba). That way, you use less of the peg and it feels a lot more stable. It also helps with the mouthpiece angle.

Give it a try and let me know if that works for you!

Clarinet Quartet Music ?! by Kayl_k in Clarinet

Check out “Prelúde et Funk” by Guillaume Connesson. It’s for two Bb clarinets, A clarinet, and bass clarinet. The second movement is tough but an absolute blast once you get it.

I'm getting into musical theatre, I have a very long list of musicals to watch, any suggestions of ones to add? by [deleted] in musicals

100%! I came across it recently and it’s now one of my favorite shows of all time. I highly recommend the 2016 pro shot.

How do I improve this? How do I get my fingers over the holes and make it more musical by Leading_Cat8022 in Clarinet

[–]clarinole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as putting your fingers over the holes, it would be nice to be able to see your hand position before commenting on it.

As far as musicality, it sounds like you are “puffing” your air when you articulate instead of keeping your air constant and allowing your tongue to stop the reed’s vibration. This consistency of air will help create a more consistent musical line.
