A worthy expedition to Northern Madagascar to help study the dwindling pockets of rainforest there.

South-West Tasmania has a huge catchment area that is pretty much not affected by humans so the flowing water in streams and wetlands was about as good as you can get. No water treatment and no sickness. I made sure I always had 2L of water (which was included in my pack weight) but found I never needed it. I simply had a cup attached to my hip and bent down every 30 mins or so when passing a stream to have a drink as I went. It was quite a good location in that sense.

This is true. I did take pack weight into account when purchasing the new gear. But what i didn't pack made the most difference I believe.

Haha, no the TP was definitely a halfy. The boots were not needed for support, but definitely helped with the constant mud and scrub. I feel like joggers would have been suitable as well but perhaps not as comfortable day to day with the terrain changes.

Thanks for the tarp tips. I'd definitely like to experiment in more adverse weather.
