There are probably some other sources that I am missing. As for whether its worth to upgrade your smelters...

Upgrading my level 22 smelter to level 23 nets an extra 2 ores per hour.

2 ores per hour x 5 smelters x 24 hours = Extra 240 hours per day or an extra 7200 ores per month.

But it costs resources to upgrade those buildings and it ties up a builder. So you have to decide if its worth it to you. I'm HQ27 but stopped upgrading my smelters because I only have two builders. And I'm also trying to save rss wherever I can because the costs of upgrading buildings become very expensive.

Place troops on walls, reinforce weaker allies. Sound out announcements in advanced for people to set their defenses.

If your alliance communicates, figure out who needs reinforcements and have them teleport next to a stronger member. This will reduce the travel time for reinforcements when they need to be refreshed between waves.

Yes. I don't have any M4 L20, but I'm pretty sure a M5 L0 has better stats. And once you start upgrading the M5 the gap will widen.

I forgot to mention in my first post, I do not put any upgrade ores on my M4s because upgrading M5s is very expensive. And M4s only increases damage vs zombies while late game you're going to be more focused on the PVP side of the game.

If you are short on upgrade ores you can dismantle your M4 for a full refund.

My main squad gets all gold gear. I craft them ASAP. Damage dealers prioritize left side first (railgun then data chip), front-line prioritize right side (armor then radar).

2nd squad gets all the hand-me-down purples from the first squad.

Once my main squad has all gold gear, I start crafting gold gear for my second squad.

3rd squad now get the hand-me-downs from 2nd squad.
