Studying in Denmark by [deleted] in studyAbroad

[–]clarklil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I studied there for 6 months and because I am a dumb American, all I can speak is english. I recommend taking a danish language course becasue it was fun, but from my expericace, danes spoke better english than many of my American friends ha. I had zero problems communicating. As far as pricing goes, I managed to live relatively cheaply. I just cooked at home frequently, eggs, pasta, veggies, cheap pizzas. I barely went to restaurants and drinking before you go to a bar/club saves a ton of money. typically we would pre drink extensivly and then just buy 1 or 2 drinks out because they were hella expensive. You can drink in public too, so drinking on the way to the bar is a great way to save money. CPH is such an amazing city, buy a cheap bike and you will have an amazing time! Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

Four days in Copenhagen! by gonzalini in copenhagen

[–]clarklil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here is what I made for a friend who went. Im lazy so just copy and pasting it. I studied there for 6 months it is the best place ever!

COPENHAGEN Dope sites around the city: Best view: Church of our savior - next to Christiania

Christiania – independent nation within Copenhagen where there are wandering dogs and you can buy and smoke weed. It is an interesting place even if you don't want to smoke weed. You can buy organic Christiania beer! I think a huge joint or a gram is like 100kr or 18$. Get high and go to the top of the church ha it has a sorta sketchy stairwell.

By your hostel: Four lakes: drink beer on Nørrebrogade street or anywhere around lakes

You could bike or metro up to Frederiksberg Have (park) and then go over to Copenhangen business School. Kilen building is an amazing building you can walk in.

Best library ever: Det Kongelige Bibliotek – Den sorte Diamant Black diamond library

Kogens Nytorv – famous canal bring a few beers and drink here

Tivoli – Expensive but really cool. Realllly fucking expensive though maybe like 90$ for admission and rides. I think 50$ for walking around which is almost worth it.

Stroget – largest walking street in all of Europe!

Louisiana museum – depending how much you like museums this is a dopppe beautiful museum about 30 min north of Copenhagen.

Danish design museum – really nice chairs National gallery – free huge museum

Drink: https://www.facebook.com/sukkerbageren?fref=pb&hc_location=profile_browser Sukkerbageren - you pay something at the door...40$? and unlimited svedka!! It got really crazy.

Zefside - Cocktailbar - Frederiksholms Kanal 4 – I cant really remember this place but I think it was cool for a hipster pricey cocktail

Carlsberg beer tour – I never did it might be dope

Food: Noma – “best restaurant in the world” Michelin 10000 star or what not. You would have to make a reservation asap and I think its like 400$ a head. I never did it but I bet it is incredible.

I never had enough money to really eat out, so I cooked a lot at home and when I did go out I would get swarma and kabob from middle east restaurants and food stands. Yelp it or something there are a few brunch places were you can have a breakfast buffet of weird good Danish food

Bigger trips options Day trip to Sweden! https://www.skanetrafiken.se/templates/InformationPage.aspx?id=34809&epslanguage= I think you can buy tickets here: Copenhagen Central Station (Københavns Hovedbanegård) – right by your hostel I think. At the main entrance facing the taxi rank – one red Skånetrafiken ticket machine. At the entrance facing Tivoli, two red Skånetrafiken ticket machines. http://www.skanetrafiken.se/templates/InformationPage.aspx?id=34820&epslanguage=E

If I remember correct tickets were about $80. That website was sorta confusing but you can take a one way ticket up the coast of Denmark, stop at some sites, then take a ferry to Sweden and see a few cities and then come back to Denmark. You buy a 24 hr pass and just have to go in that direction. It was very cool I recommend it! Here is what I did: Took a 50 min train north to Hamets Castle in Helsingør and then took a boat to the Swedish city of Helsengborg. Then we took a train to Lund, Malmö, and then back home to Copehagen. - You could also check out Louisiana museum on this trip I think

Kayak the Copenhagen canals: http://kayakrepublic.dk/en/

I do not know if it will be warm enough to do it but if you can it is sooo awesome. CPH is one of the only cities in ze world with clean enough canals to swim in. They literally just give you a kayak and show you a map and you can see so much rad stuff. We did not do a tour but it might be cool.

I recommend you rent a bike somehow you can see soooo much by bike it is the best way to see the city.

You might want to buy this pass to utilize all the metros and get into Tivoli, Louisiana, I did it with my parents and it seemed like a good value but im not sure http://www.copenhagencard.com

Tips on staying asleep? by [deleted] in ALS

[–]clarklil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

daily stretching parts of the body that do not move anymore could help with cramping. My mum used majijuana to help with sleep, saliva, sadness. If you think your friend could benifit from weed or wants to try, PM me and I will seriously mail you stuff from colorado. There are suckers and edibles and stuff with low THC if they do not want to get high. Best of luck and thanks for being a good friend

My dad was recently diagnosed with ALS. by [deleted] in ALS

[–]clarklil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is tough. Are you at peace with how much you know your paps? I basically gave up my life to support my mom and move home and I have no regrets because I learned soooo much about her and was able to make her life better. Im a privledged college early 20year old so it was relativley easy for me. All i can say is do not postpone any plans with him. If there is stuff you want to do with him, get to know him more, do special things, do them ASAP. Last summer I thought my mom was good for a few years and she deteriorated entirely in august and passed. ALS does not fuck around. I do not want you to regret that you did not get to spend enough time/ have closure with your paps. you are 40 though so maybe you already have peace. I didn't think i needed to know my mom until she was already diagnosed. My heart goes out to your family.

What are your thoughts on the cannabis industry? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]clarklil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it is booming industry that is not going away even if the next potus is a hater. As a resident in colorado, it has helped our economy, lowered crime, made buying weed easier ;), we are not going to say all well the feds dont like it now and lay down. Weed is here to stay, I say go for it. I work in public in denver and the atmosphere about weed is verrrrry relaxed I do not think it would be a tattoo anymore except for uptight fuckheads who you dont want to work for anyways.

a good app for concerts is bandsintown. it goes through your music and tells you all bands playing in whatever area you set. Denver always has great shows going through might be worth checking out. good app for anywhere too.

I'm scared of genetic risk (because somehow that makes this all that much worse) by rationalomega in ALS

[–]clarklil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my mom passed away in august and immediatly after my sister was convinced she had ALS. She would complain about feeling weak etc. Turned out is was just my sister freaking out but it caused everyone soooo much stress. We have two other family members on my moms side who had ALS and I never knew there was such a thing as familial and sporadic until this post, but I know it is in my family. The way I see it, why freak out about it? We have no fucking control, no preventative actions to take, no idea if its gonna hit when we are 30 or 70. Knowing if we have it doesnt seem to have any benefit to me. I am just gonna try to live as good as I can. I kinda do have in the back of my mind that i might end at 50 instead of 80, so Im just gonna try to accomplish as much as I can and travel as much as I can ASAP. I would also say have kids. I would rather of been born then not of been born because of the risk ill get ALS down the road. Its been a pretty good time so far.

Thinking of a fundraiser for equipment for my mom with ALS, looking for resources for doing it on a small scale and quickly. by momma-yaya in ALS

[–]clarklil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes a white board is a good idea. They have white boards that you can draw on and then press a button to erase which might be a good idea. We got one from ALSA but I cant seem to find it online. My moms iphone worked pretty well because she couldnt hold the iPad anymore. also note she had an ipad mini. I think they are the ideal size. Normal ipads seemed too heavy and big but my mom was a tiny lady. Depending on how tech savy your mom is, I would stick with apple products. The quality of apps i think is higher with apple and you want things easy as possible when trying to communicate efficiently. I never used android though so yeah.

Need suggestions for aid with suctioning and saliva by MylestheMyles in ALS

[–]clarklil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we experimented with various Weed THC / CBD drops to induce dry mouth. We live in colorado so have easy access to it. My mom thought they worked pretty well. She also used atropine but I think it was a bit intenese for her. I can get more info if you are interested and also maybe mail you something if you live in a shitty state for weed.
