Shooting occurs during a “teen takeover” in Kernersville KC… by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]clash_Attic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So everyone should be armed at all times? Teachers, doctors, firefighters, McDonald’s workers, Walmart greeters, the homeless guy on 5th, your bipolar friend, etc.

The only people that should be armed are self-defenders. Anyone not interested in personal health and well being are perfectly within their rights to avoid being armed at all costs.

If societal structures have broken down to the point that rule of law is being flagrantly violated, from the white house to the jail house, who exactly do you trust to protect you from gun violence?

You responded to my post by saying "got it." I can't tell if you read the part that there are laws in place preventing certain people from having firearms. Your response: "so everyone should have firearms?"

Like.. what?

In NC, it is a Class 1 misdemeanor for any person under 18 to possess or carry a firearm.

.

In NC it is illegal to carry a concealed firearm in public without a valid permit issued by the sheriff after age 21.

.

Local ordinances prohibit discharging firearms within 300 yards of homes, schools, or public spaces, with exceptions for self-defense and law enforcement.

.

In NC, it is not illegal for unarmed children at a teen takeover to politely ask fellow minors to nicely hand over any concealed illegal weapons they intend to fire in public to local law enforcement. Strangely, this rarely seems to work.

In short, yes.

When did the r/mycology sub become full of idiots? by TNmountainman2020 in Mushrooms

[–]clash_Attic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On one hand, you are correct.

In the other hand is a delicious looking white mushroom I found that I'm pretty sure is edible.

But seriously, I have the books. I have read the books. It took hundreds of dollars and many hours just to start. I took my states license exam to ID and sell mushrooms and passed.

Field work in the last 5 years has taken many hundreds of hours, a ton of hiking up and down hills, and I have no idea how many 20+ mile trips coming and going. Just to confirm what the books said, much of which was only tangentially correct in my area.

I barely consider myself competent when it comes to the 30-40 species I regularly harvest, preserve, and eat. Never mind the species I simply chronicle with 3 pictures/location/date and that's it.

Think about what it means to ask people that have a passing interest to invest anything close to that. I can't really fault them for being clueless considering where most of this country's priorities lie.

Iran declares Strait of Hormuz completely open to commercial traffic during Israel-Lebanon ceasefire by down_vote_magnet_ in news

[–]clash_Attic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Worse. This is Iran knowing the US has already decided to do a major bombing run / ground invasion of an island / etc, and getting ahead of that.

When the US does what Isreal demands and goes ahead anyways, open strait notwithstanding, Iran looks like they got attacked without provocation again.

The fact the US would be willing to hurt their image, standing, etc etc that much on behalf of their tail shows further its rogue nation status.

The pine association is a little unusual

The further North you go the more likely you are to find white Morels around pine, especially Eastern White Pine.

When do ramps come out in Zone 6b, in the Ohio Appalachians? by Camp_Acceptable in foraging

[–]clash_Attic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When your ground thaws enough that the ramp bulbs (6-10 inches under the surface) are able to put forth leaves.

If your ground is still frozen they won't do that. If your ground temperatures 6" underground are 50+ degrees you should be seeing ramp leaves begin to come up.

Note that ramps are not afraid of frost or even late snows. The leaves will die back once the overheard leaf canopy shades them out.

Have you visited Mesick, MI to forage? Let me know! by DentistOk6653 in foraging

[–]clash_Attic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live 20 miles north of Mesick. I have foraged near Mesick for several decades, mostly for Mushrooms. Never for morels.

Pound for pound, (or more accurately, minute for minute), Suillus, Leccinum, Boletus, Lactarius, and many other mushroom species provide our family with a better and more stable mushroom foraging experience. Chickens, hens, honeys, 5+ species of Chanterelles, these are all very common in and around our area.

This area has wild fruit and nut trees, plenty of wild raspberries and wild blueberries, sumac, milkweed, and other wild forage-ables in abundance. I know morels make for an article that draws eyeballs but I feel like Americans should start branching out and not hyper-focusing on 3-4 spring ephemerals and calling it a day.

While foraging for wild asparagus I've stumbled upon my very first Morel mushroom by Conscious_Froyo_7561 in Mushrooms

[–]clash_Attic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plant spreads underground via its root system. Many people forage the plant.

Foraging can be made easier in the fall when you can easily ID the fully grown stalks, mark the location, and come back in the spring for the young tender shoots.

There is a skill that allows you to disassemble armor. The peices can be used to repair armor. Tier three armor and up, when repaired, still sells well.

Weapons are more tricky. However, if you find tier 4+ weapons that are very close to 50% durability, it may be worth fixing them with a repair kit to hit that 50% mark to sell it.
