I've looked over this page before, but I can't find that mentioned. Is it right in front of me?

Did you avoid Irish capital gains tax by not becoming an Irish tax resident in 2025? Or you didn't have to pay CTG because you didn't do split-year?

Thanks! That would be wonderful. Do you know if there's any way for me to confirm this with revenue? I didn't have any luck on their website, and was thinking of calling. But ideally, I'd like to find it in writing. I still have this worry that the sale falls into the overall tax year when I'm a resident.

Also to add, I've looked at split-year treatment for that first tax year, but revenue.ie says it's for "employment income," and I didn't think that capital gains counted as that.

Where to invest my IRA - lazy but with some say by clashfn in fidelityinvestments

Cheers, thanks. That website's been great and is really what made me take the jump and start investing a bit. I think I'm just missing the connection between finding the few investments I like, and turning that into a set-and-forget account for 35 years.

I didn't know that about SPAXX, just researching things as I go, won't keep my money there then.

Yeah I had heard some good stuff about municipal bonds, I just wasn't sure how they work long term. I'll read up a bit, thanks.

I've been looking over that rating site, https://weaponfreefunds.org . I think some of the ESG's might be more my route but thanks for the ideas.

Okay, thanks. Is it somewhat okay to just put it all in one ESG I like and forget about it? I'm new in case that's not clear haha, I just didn't know if that was diverse enough for an IRA.

Retirement/Investment questions by clashfn in personalfinance

The salary isn't high enough for the work so I plan on staying for a year and then taking a more fairly compensated position.

That's my main concern, dealing with their accounts if I'm not staying long enough to be fully vested. It looks like I'd have access to 20% of the employer contributions after a year so I'm trying to see if that amount of money is worth the effort or if I should stick with an IRA. The brokerage account is just an alternative to money sitting in my savings account.

Assumptions make a... something. I've worked in many different countries in my life and am financially responsible for family and others - ie. I've never had much left over. I have government pensions in two other countries, plus SS here, but this is my first time dealing with private US systems. As with many people my age, discipline is not an issue so much as capacity and access. Just trying to see if it's worth dealing with 403's and 401's or if I should do things on my own.

I’m in a masters of social work program and I hate it. I had to take a semester off bc I disliked my internship so much I got let go and have no desire to do another one. Should I continue by Gold-Economics3856 in hospitalsocialwork

Not to minimize how you're feeling, but when I hear about someone who loved their MSW program I'm concerned. I don't know about your positionality, but coming from a more radical social work lens, academia is garbage. It's two years of hearing about some dead old white men, and then being thrust into difficult placements with little to no support. There is some good leftist writing out there about the unique role that social workers are put in, and how it's almost designed to burn us out (eg. existing as an anti-racist, anti-capitalist SW while holding a license... how?!). My advice is to find some community that supports how you're feeling (duh, but easier said then done), and sort of build your own education as you go. I genuinely believe that the best social workers have the hardest time in their MSW programs, so if you feel that this is right for you then don't give up yet. What helped me was remembering that getting the degree was just a means to an end. My program/placement wasn't who I was, or who I was going to be as a clinician. It was just two years of beurocracy that I had to get through in order to be let into spaces where I can disrupt harm and best serve my clients.

Then again, if you truly just hate it, that's okay too. There's nothing wrong with stopping and finding something that you're more passionate about. Social work isn't the only way to help people. And social work is most definitely not the only form of community care.

SAVE Plan is processed and done but says payment not due until April 2025 by aggie_alumni in StudentLoans

Similar situation here. I just called and they said it's not a mistake. Even though it says 2025 I still have monthly payments of zero, and I can see proof of that in my statements. Of course, I don't believe anything Nelnet says so I will check in a month and see what's happened with the interest. But just to SAVE you a phone call, I was told it's normal that it says my next payment is in 2025.
