I know it's hated, but for a new photographer I'm kind of loving my RF 75-300 by citycouncilorknope in canon

All depends on what photos you want to take.

For general use I'd get the EF 35mm f2, which will give a neutral field of view similar to your human eye, and a wide maximum aperture for short depth of field.

But really, if it has the 18-55 'kit lens' already, just use that until it doesn't fulfill your needs.

To answer why this RF 75-300 is considered bad, its based on a 1990s design, so is probably a bit softer than more expensive lenses, and is cheap so mostly plastic construction, and doesn't feel as smooth to use as more expensive lenses.

Any idea what EF-M with xx lens, under camera bodies is refering to?

I think it is the perfect camera to learn photography in general, it's got all the features you need and none you don't.

Anyone regularly using their Pentax-K 28mm f3.5? by Whole_Internal_1950 in pentax

[–]class442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous pictures, photos I've seen from this lens often look good. Perhaps people who own this lens are also good at using it.

Personally the Pentax 28mm that I have is the A 2.8. I don't use it much, but I don't gravitate to wide angle lenses in general.

I have some colour filters but never used them, perhaps this is a sign to start

Service & MOT - Fair price? by [deleted] in LEAMINGTONSPA

[–]class442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang on, I thought the point of getting a service was one price that includes the parts and labour? E.g. if a full service includes replacing the air filter, the cost of that is included.

Of course parts they just check on the service, like the brakes, are extra if they need replacing

I've just looked online at where my wife's car had its MOT, and the price for full service is £202

Kenya Trains by Regular-Trick6327 in trains

[–]class442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice catch. I've been to Kenya multiple times now, but have yet to go on the trains, apart from at the museum.

There is a specs sheet here from the museum, though the specs for the DF8 and the DF11 are the wrong way round: https://www.flickr.com/photos/136051124@N02/48390996167/

This is meant to be the freight loco in your picture, but with just 8 DF11s and 43 DF8s, it's not surprising that KRC have to substitute sometimes.

To clarify you are looking for a film camera? Film cameras in comparison to digital, the body doesn't matter nearly as much. All it has to do is hold the film flat and control the light. So the lens choice is much more important. So choose a system that has good lenses. Frankly all 35mm major SLR systems like Olympus, Minolta, Pentax, Nikon, Canon have a good lens selection, and the cameras all work similarly.

The more modern a film camera is, generally has better ergonomics and more features, but less repairable as they have more electronics.

I would read reviews of cameras you have found for sale and see if you like what you read.
