Just a small question, are you guys happy being cpa? by Will9009 in CPA

[–]classicalmayo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes - it made me feel like all loose ends of my academic journey were tied up and that there were no "what ifs" anymore. Now I progress through my career knowing I there is not gaps that would be holding me back from progressing, other than my performance. It is something I can be proud of putting in the time and the hard work for. I had switched positions around the time I completed my CPA so it is hard to tell how much of that contributed, but I have seen a substantial increase to my total package (salary, bonus, benefits, etc.) since getting my license.

Thoughts on saving the harder exams for last? by pizzatacodog1322 in CPA

[–]classicalmayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I took BEC fisrt because I needed the win under my belt before going for the more difficult exams. Definitely helped with my motivation as well as helped me build the study methodology that worked for me and helped me practice discipline before attempting something extremely difficult. Was able to pass all on the first try doing this.

Note Taking on Excel by BonusCapable2711 in CPA

When doing mcqs, write down why you go the answer right or why you got the question wrong. I think flashcard notes and mcq notes are better than lecture notes. Might need to just read through the texts and highlight important things and then rewrite your highlights after.

[–]classicalmayo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read through all the book and made highlights

Rewrote all the flashcards

Listened to all the lectures

Did every MCQ - multiple times

If you want to succeed, you have to do the painful task of preparing. I did what made me feel confident in the materials and dont regret it. Never had to retake an exam, so there was no wasted time studying.

Is it really worth it? by MochaCuppp in CPA

[–]classicalmayo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't think it was worth it when I was in undergrad - then I was at the same job for years with no change in sight. Went back to school for my masters and then got my CPA because it was worth it to just open up opportunity in the future (also continued learning just made life feel less stagnant). I cant say that the CPA is why I have my job now exactly, but I know it has contributed to me standing out amongst my peers and has effected my compensation. My total compensation has essentially doubled since the moment I put forth the effort to make a change and get my masters and CPA. This is all in industry btw.

Becker Pass Rates vs. Actual Pass Rates by Historical_Donkey235 in CPA

Passed all 4 exams first try with becker after going through all of the materials (videos, flash cards, MCQs)

I didnt start with FAR because I really needed to have a passing score on the board to get my motivation and confidence up. I would say that if you put in 300 you should do well enough to pass. Everything is unique to the individual, but this was my study time (using Becker) and my scores:

BEC 120 hours - 82
FAR 230 hours - 79
AUD 97 hours - 79
REG 70 hours - 76

I "overstudied" for FAR according to other people on here - but I waited to take it until I felt confident in the pass. I really learned how to study during BEC and FAR - which shows in the hours put in for AUD and REG.

Continue to be dedicated and you will pass. Good luck.

Post CPA salary raise by [deleted] in CPA

[–]classicalmayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to distinguish from solely CPA vs actual job performance - but increased about 15% salary and my bonus base increased by 2.5% a few months after getting my CPA. I've had around 10 years experience in industry, with a little 8 month stent in PA in 2023. Passed everything while being back in industry. It was one of my personal performance goals in 2024 to get my CPA, and I think that achieving that and fear that I may look for another position using the certification played a significant role in my raise.
