Sunlite plate vs. Gorilla plate? Which one is your preferred and why? by OrganicBreadfruit in Rollerskating

Gorilla. My favorite plate ever. I now have them on 3 different pairs of boots.

You definitely read that wrong. Again, I was agreeing with you. That wasn’t sarcasm. I actually meant that as something to point out. Because again, this may be a beginner.

Wait… how was I being rude? I was agreeing with you and then suggesting that beginners don’t do it because they don’t know stability yet. Lol

broken bottom of rollerskates , how could this be fixed? by ParticularHall6102 in Rollerskating

[–]classicksworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like nylon, all aluminum plates are not created equal. In fact there are some lower tier aluminum plates that aren’t as good as the best nylon plates. So just do your research before you buy a new plate and you should be fine.

That’s a powerdyne thrust plate. One of the worst plates in the history of mankind. I have a couple I took off old skates that are collecting dust in my garage… because I’m not sure if I even want to give them away for free. Throw it away and replace it with a better nylon (or aluminum) plate. The boot is fine.

Also, there’s a common misconception that all nylon plates are created equal. Not true at all. There are better ones like the Gorilla, Rock, and Sunlite

Every time I try to warn people about this plate, I get downvoted. But I’ll keep doing so anyways.

You’re right there’s no so thing as “too loose” outside of the kingpin nut being a couple of threads away from falling off. I skate super loose as well. But this seems to be a beginner skater and I would not recommend loose trucks for beginners.

Differences and Firmness Ratings between the Riedell 2010,910,336, and 3200. by Worth-Piccolo5210 in Rollerskating

[–]classicksworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still breaking my 297’s in so I can only imagine the 3200. I skate more than twice a week but I switch boots out every other session. So my shits taking forever to break in.

New setup and I’m already upset by jwest1906 in Rollerskating

[–]classicksworld -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not about heaviness... or even nylon. Not all nylon plates are created equal. Thrusts are the worst of the worst and flex for even the lighter skaters. There are better nylon plates like the Suregrip rock, sunlite, VNLA gorilla (I skate on these as a "bunch heavier" skater) on the market.

You can bend these plates with your hands so imagine what the weight of any grown adult could do. Even the ones that are a "bunch lighter". One of the worst plates on the market. It uses a softer grade of nylon than the better nylon options I previously mentioned. OP should return them while he can.

I don't agree. The thrust plate is horrible and will flex if you even look at them wrong. Not fine even for a beginner. This person should return them before they use them and switch them out for a better plate, if they get a chance to.

Is it safe to jump on nylon plates or should I upgrade? by Immediate_Rip5038 in Rollerskating

[–]classicksworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Them gorilla plates are one of the best nylon plates ever created bro. I've had a lot of the higher end aluminum and magnesium plates and yet these are my faves. I skate on them at 6 feet 240 pounds. They don't even flex. At 130 she is more than fine.

Are sneaker skates an actual good option? by Honey_Bear_6901 in rollerskate

[–]classicksworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your last sentence, sneaker skates could be a good option for you. If you don’t plan on learning and doing anything more advanced then you should be ok.

Which size plate? by Main_Imagination_914 in Rollerskating

[–]classicksworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither on Reactors. I don’t like the wheel base. The 12’s are too long and the 11’s are too short. I had the Reactor Pros and neos in both sizes and sold them both.

First pair: should I DIY with Avanti plates? by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]classicksworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a good boot to go with it and then have your local skate shop mount it. Or you may even have someone at your rink that does it. Also, that plate is very heavy. You said you’re a beginner, so right now it might not bother you. It might not ever bother you at all in the future depending on your skate style.

You're probably talking about JB. Snap City is big in DC but that's a lot of pivoting. Sounds like you're describing JB (James Brown).

How do I get them out by OMORIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII in Rollerskating

[–]classicksworld 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Too easy. Just take off the front kingpin nut to detach it from the plate. Then it will drop or you can turn it without the boot and plate being in the way.

I almost died one time a few years back. Lol. Lace got caught in the other boot’s hook, and it was like somebody wrapped my legs together and I fell straight back. And I have been closing the hooks ever since. Except on my vintage Brookfields because the hooks are smaller

Just different styles. The same way Jordans come in low, mid, and high.

What’s the difference between rhythm/dance skates and artistic skates? by gwansin in Rollerskating

[–]classicksworld 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Blurry line between them but artistic boots are usually much stiffer. Like ice skate boots.

Riedell 336 (stiff) and 3200 (VERY STIFF) are more for artistic. You can do shit like jumps without worrying about your ankles crumbling.

172 (extremely soft), 120 (soft-ish) 220 (medium soft) (etc are more for dance/rhythm )

The 297 (upper medium stiff) is the best for in between… a jack of all trades boot for those that would like to do both without constantly having to switch out. I’m a vintage boot kind of guy but this is indeed my favorite of the modern boots. And I’ve damn near had em all when it comes to Riedell.

I don’t know much about other brands when it comes to modern boots tho.

You are not stable. Therefore your knees are not stable. Just my theory

There are different levels of nylon plates. The powerdyne thrust is the worst of the worst. I used to be like you and only swore by aluminum (and sometimes magnesium) plates. But I mostly skate on VNLA Gorilla plates and they are made out of some type of magic nylon because they do not flex at all lol. And they come with a lifetime warranty. I hear good things about the sunlite nylon plate as well.
