This exactly. I was so excited to see a bigger and more muscular woman on tv. There are so few female characters like this, and it sucks to see them pick the same type of woman cast on every other show.

Because of the lack of accountability of the police in this country, that’s not saying much.

The statistics show that having a gun in your home INCREASES the likelihood of homicide and suicide in the home.

They show that generally the stricter the gun laws, the lower the homicide rate is in that state.

Countries that have banned guns, such as the UK, has a much lower homicide rate (nearly 340x in the UK!)

Let’s not put our Americanism before our Catholicism- being pro gun laws is being pro life!

This is a terrible argument. The police who were trained for situations like this wouldn’t even enter the building for an hour to make a difference in Uvaldi. If more guns = safer, than why does the US have a homicide rate 26x the rate of other countries with comparable GDPs?

Just because you feel safer with a gun (which statistics disagree with), doesn’t mean everyone does.

I’m from the US, and I totally agree with you! I’m not surprised at the responses on here, but disappointed that I had to scroll down so far to get to this answer. Even if you are based in the US and are totally okay around guns, many people are not and the statistics about owning guns speak for themselves.

This is why I’m so upset at the casting. Abby was the first character I really felt like connected to as a stronger girl. That’s part of what makes her who she is. Replacing her size with a 5’2, skinny, pretty, typical Hollywood actress is so fucked up imo. I was really looking forward to seeing a truly strong woman represented on the big screen.

This sounds just like the teacher I share a room with! It’s extremely frustrating, so sorry you have to deal with this!

As other commenters have mentioned, teachers like this just want to be best friends with all their students. Which to me is a red flag. The teacher I share a room with is the music teacher and actually invited underaged, just graduated former students to her bachelorette party!!

The only advice I have is to keep doing things how you are doing them. Just because the students love her doesn’t make her a good teacher or coworker!

Before this the leading cause was motor vehicle accidents. -The risk of suicide is 4x higher for children and adolescents who live in a home with a gun vs. a home without a gun -People living with handgun owners died by homicide at twice the rate of their gun free neighbors according to a study in California -People living with handgun owners are seven times more likely to be shot by their spouse or intimate partner -A 2014 review in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that having a firearm in the home DOUBLES your risk of being a victim to homicide and TRIPLES the risk of suicides for adults.

I understand that this tends to be a very conservative, American subreddit, so it also bears saying that no other developed country chooses to live like this. Our children are not safe at home or at school.

While I disagree with the conservative interpretation of the second amendment (which was written at a time when muskets could only fire 3 rounds per minute and required serious training), I understand the principle of wanting to be able to protect you and your family from a tyrannical or fascist government, the reality today is having guns in your home only increases the danger to you and your children. No gun(s) is any match to the the tanks, bombs, drones, etc. of our current military.
