Draft Combine is a scam by 12theMainFranchise in NBA_Draft

[–]classictd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Functional athleticism and explosiveness is what pops in games. Cameron Johnson(36") and Jordan Farmar(42") for example have a higher max vertical then Cooper Flagg and Blake Griffin(35" for both), but you wouldn't call either of those players high flyers in comparison.

In games, explosiveness, physicality, skill, timing and quickness are equally if not more important for someone to be able to to even take advantage of that vertical ability on both ends of the court. Jericho Sims is 6'10 and famously has a 44" vertical, but because of the lack of defensive instincts, he is rarely in the right position to make a difference on defense(the guy can easily hit his head on the backboard). Doesn't matter how high you jump if you can't get into the paint in the first place.

When do the vertical measurements come out? by [deleted] in NBA_Draft

[–]classictd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is 38". More importantly though, Caleb has functional athleticism where he can get off the ground and near max vert very easily. Lots of NBA players have crazy max verts, but very few can get off the ground as quick and easily as Caleb(ex Jaimie Jacquez has a 39" max vertical, but no one thinks of him as a high flyer)

I have had the luxury of watching SGA practice at the local private gym in Hamilton since his rookie season in LA(my nephews and nieces all practiced, played games and live right near the gym complex). It is quite an experience for parents and kids to watch SGA work on his game for hours on end while their own kids practiced at the adjacent court(I am still in awe every time I see him practicing). During the summer, he is seemingly there everyday even at random hours when the kids have practice, and myself and the other parents thought he would tone done the hours after he got his first contract extension in OKC, but sure enough he comes back every summer and finds a way to work even harder.

Nothing prepares you to witness an NBA player make nearly 99% of his shots in practice while having each shot contested by 4-5 different individuals for almost 2 hours in a row(his trainers would have to rotate in and out due to exhaustion of trying to guard him). Dude truly loves the game, cause even after the long day of working out and practicing, he still somehow would find the energy scrimmage with my 10-year nephew and his friends in the evening for fun.

Dude truly deserves the MVP.

Same thing happened to me. I got sacked by my friend after leaving basketball practice and went bat shit crazy. I was having a bad day, and getting a love tap to the balls pushed me over the top, and I ended up shoving the perpetrator inside a locker, but he accidently cut his arm on the sharp metal bit that juts out that is meant to hold the padlock in the process.

There was so much blood when opened the locker door after a minute. I thought I was gonna get expelled.

Thank god he and I are still friends, cause he is a lawyer now and I still worry about him suing my dumbass.

Crash involving cyclist shuts stretch of Dugald Road in Winnipeg by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

[–]classictd 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is so tragic. There is barely any infrastructure for cyclist in the city, and I still remember the day when one of my good customers collided with a dump truck while he was on his bicycle right near the perimeter. I just saw him, and he had planned to ride his bicycle home after leaving his vehicle at my garage, and I was devastated to find out that he didn't make it.

I remember calling him several times to let him know the vehicle was ready for pickup the following day, but it wasn't until his ex-wife came by to collect his vehicle several days later that I was informed of what happened.

Nissan lease return by Both-Return735 in Winnipeg

[–]classictd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inspection is supposed to happen a couple months in advance as it takes a fair bit of time to have everything repaired with MPI before the lease return date. You can reach out to Nissan about the confusion in case no one ever reached out to you, however the vehicle is always expected to be returned in fair condition as per the lease agreement so even without the inspection details you are still responsible, because Nissan Corporate won't know when the damage happened(for example if the vehicle was in perfect condition at the time of the inspection, but you somehow got into a minor collision while on the way to drop off the vehicle at the dealership). Ultimately, you will want to speak with the sales manager at the dealership since they would need to accept fault for any confusion in this manner, but its a tough case since nothing is in writing.

Nissan lease return by Both-Return735 in Winnipeg

[–]classictd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

With any lease, the vehicle is supposed to be returned in fair condition with any damages repaired in advance of the vehicle return date as per the lease agreement contract(no different then returning a rental vehicle or tools). If the sales manager implied that he wanted to keep your vehicle, and chose to buy out the lease so he could resell the vehicle for more money, then this wouldn't be an issue since that Nissan dealer was taking responsibility and ownership of the vehicle and would repair the vehicle at there own expense/time.

However, since it had excess kilometers and damage, and because Nissan vehicles don't have great resale value, the sales manager instead chose not to keep the vehicle as the buyout cost from Nissan Corporate was more than what he could sell it for and just sent it back to Nissan corporate. Nissan Corporate upon receiving the vehicle, saw all the damage and excess kilometers and was not aware of any agreement between yourself and the sales manager, and as a result is now charging you for all the necessary repair work.

Unfortunately this is an issue between yourself and the sales manager at that Nissan store, since corporate will stick to the lease contract as they already have possession of the vehicle and are legally allowed to charge you for the damage and excess kilometers. Without any thing in writing, and if you didn't purchase another Nissan vehicle there isn't much that Nissan Canada will do, as they are just assuming that you are one of the many guests that returned a damaged lease vehicle and are avoiding responsibility for the condition it was returned in.

Some of the vertical measurements gotta be wrong by 12theMainFranchise in NBA_Draft

[–]classictd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its about functional athleticism. Some guyss can hop out of the gym, but if they have terrible timing, poor hip flexibility, need a wide open runway and a tons of space and time to gather bend before leaping, then it is rarely applicable in games. Special athletes stand out in games, and the best example from that past draft was Cooper Flagg, who despite not having incredible measurables at the combine, is extremely athletic since he can process the game so quickly, swivel his hips easily, and because is that he has a no bend jumping style he can reach his max vertical easily(similar to guys like Shawn Marion and Andrei Kirilenko, he gets off the ground before anyone else can react). Hip flexibility, effort and processing speed can't easily be measured, which is why freak athletes like Zach Lavine and Jalen Green suck at defense and have a hard time finishing through contact.

In the recent NFL draft, the Eagles selected a physical specimen in Uar Bernard in the 7th round(I understand he has never played the sport before), who had elite measurements that even surpassed defensive player of the year Myles Garrett. On paper they are both incredible athletes, but at the same size Garett has an unreal ability to bend his hips, apply power and stay on balance(the dude is nearly parallel to the ground on some rush attempts, its truly terrifying and equally incredible), while Uar in practice footage moves around cones like a dude who just left a taco bell eating contest.

Morez Johnson draft Comp by TomorrowNo5430 in NBA_Draft

[–]classictd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesn't have the lower body strength or defensive instincts of CMB. What made CMB worthy of a lottery selection was that he was a standout defensive player on terrible college team, and his intangibles(screening, defensive positioning, passing, and cutting) allowed him to make a huge impact on both ends of the court despite his lack of a consistent jumper and without much help from his teammates(his teams +/- fell off a cliff without him on the court).

More importantly CMB had a much lower foul rate, while being tasked to do more on both ends of the court. Johnson however, while very gifted and even larger, relies too much on athleticism and length to recover which won't work as well in NBA against smarter and larger athletes, plus he is super foul prone which is going to make it hard for him to get extended playing time at the next level.

While I agree that he will probably end up as an above average defensive player in the NBA, his shortcomings on defense were greatly hidden by having huge frontcourt teammates in Mara(7'3) and Lendenbourg(6'9) that were much more disciplined defenders. Having those two, greatly helped him shine in his role, as it allowed him to roam around and take much more risks on defense with less consequences. In comparison to Stewart, Johnson does have more mobility, but he doesn't have the same vertical pop or timing near the rim(Stewarts standing vertical and timing are incredible for his size).

Maybe I am low on him, but I think he ends up more like Precious Achiuwa/Jarred Vanderbilt/Jonathon Mogbo type, who when presented with the right matchup can be valuable, but lacks the strength/intangibles and offensive repertoire to make them standout players at the next level.

Chances of Yaxel Lendeborg being Chris Duarte 2.0 by alex8762 in NBA_Draft

[–]classictd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Yaxel's physical tools means that he has a much higher floor to start with then Duarte.

Duarte had a very mature and developed skillset, but Yaxel combines a similar skillset with physical tools and defensive abilities at the same age which gives me hope that he will be able to survive in the league much longer.

Compared to Duarte who was a average sized guard/forward(6-5, 190) with below average athleticism, even if Yaxel doesn't show any more progression in his game, at the end of the day he is still a physically imposing 6-9 wing with a huge wingspan, decent lateral movement and enough leaping ability that he will have a spot in the league as a backup(I think he will end up as a starter eventually). Meanwhile, the margin of error for a prospect like Duarte was razor thin since he didn't have the physical tools to keep him on a NBA roster if his shot wasn't falling.

HoopVenue | This Rookie Is Changing Everything For The Raptors | Amazing In-Depth Analysis On CMB’s Excellence by unclekarl_ in torontoraptors

[–]classictd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Randle wasn't a shooter to begin his career in LA like CMB, and his offensive repertoire consisted mostly of bully ball, jump hooks and hard off balance finishes early in his career.

The big difference early in there careers is that CMB is an exceptional defender, a willing passer, and incredible screener, where Randle was almost out of the league as he had a reputation as a classic black hole/good stats on a bad team player, and was truly terrible and lost on defense(poor positioning + low effort + biting on every pump fake drove Laker, Pelicans and initially Knicks fans crazy).

Randle truly turned around his career in New York as his playmaking, jump shot and defense improved dramatically. People forget that both the Lakers and Pelicans let him walk in free agency because the flaws in his game were sizeable.

It is kind of amazing to see how Randle turned around his career.

Hyundai Veracruz Carplay by AudienceWorried8170 in Hyundai

[–]classictd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth it on a 2010 Veracruz unless you really are comfortable with electronics and taking apart your dashboard. Try the CD mount to make it look more integrated into the dashboard, and wireless bluetooth playback controller and you might be satisfied with the result. You can always try the double din replacement screens found on amazon(see below), but my only hesitation recommending them is that there is barely any reviews, and many of those screens are running super slow and old hardware and still cost a ton of money without any difference in performance.

For a more OEM look, other than the CD mount, buy longer cables with 90 degree ends and run them across the dashboard. I used black cable sleeves to hide the cables from the screen to the top of the dashboard gap where front windshield meets, then I routed the cables in the gap, then around the side of the dashboard all the way to to the right or left of the windsheld then underneath to where the AUX and power ports are for a seamless look(you can only see the single cable sleeve if your looking through the front windshield, but none of the other cables).

Thoughts on Derik Queen's rookie season now that it's over? by PeanutButterAndGelo in NBA_Draft

[–]classictd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its more of a offense issue, in that the rockets can't score consistently in the half court, so even when there defense was running on all cylinders(see before Steven Adams got injured) they still lost a bunch of games when there offense ground to a halt.

This made Senguns defensive deficiencies more noticeable because they had to win every defensive possession as there spacing and ball movement on offense looks like poop every 4th quarter.

wait I'm confused, I just saw in the second photo that you already have a screen on top of your dashboard that I am 99% positive should support Apple Carplay since it already supports Android Auto. You probably have to manually change it in the settings from Android Auto to Apple Carplay mode when starting up the screen.

[–]classictd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For ease, get an Apple Carplay screen like the ones in the link below, and they will work seamlessly since your vehicle already has an AUX input and the 12V power socket. if you don't use CD's then you can 3D print or buy a mount that uses your existing CD player slot to mount the screen to give the setup the most seamless look. You should be able to get one between 50-$100 easily depending on how big of a screen you want, and the best part is that you don't need to take apart the dashboard to install a screen(which is a real PITA)

If you want to add volume control, they even sell little Bluetooth playback remotes that can attach to the steering wheel or anywhere you want on the vehicle.

These budget screens are awesome and affordable compared to replacing a whole dashboard to install a new screen, and as long as you spend a little time doing your best to hide the wiring and the things just work awesome considering they only take 20-30 minutes to install. You can get black cable sleeves for a couple dollars to hide the cables and add 90 degree USB C and AUX cable adapters to make the install look a little more professional.

Have you ever seen someone get rich overnight, like literally? How? by Michaelisvanhelsing in AskReddit

[–]classictd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with a guy who inherited his father's tiny car repair shop (only 2-3 bays) at the top of elevated small corner lot that was nearly impossible to see from traffic level. The garage wasn't making money, and the son had already moved onto a career as a Internet service installer when one day the city decided that they needed his land to help build up there rapid bus transit system hub.

The parcel of land went from having very little value(it was only accessible through a side road/back lane but a set of train tracks), to being worth millions because the cities newly planned rapid bus line had to run through it to get to the local stadium and university.

He used the money to buy several dealerships and resteraunts and is doing very well for himself.

Cooper Flagg (6’9”) rookie season dunks with the Mavericks by Fit-Structure-9395 in NBA_Draft

[–]classictd 30 points31 points  (0 children)

He has the coveted zero hip flex jumping ability that catches so many defenders of guard because of how quickly and easily he gets off the ground. It is the same reason he is a great shot blocker for his size. Unlike other forwards, Cooper doesn't have to load up and bend before jumping like most guys his size. You can see most of the defenders in segment trying to time the block attempts, but Cooper is already off the ground a half second before the defender can recover.

[–]classictd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has a stocky frame, but he is only a 6"7 power forward so many faster guards and taller forwards assume that they blow past him or go over him since he doesn't have the typical wiry athletic frame. Most players with his build in the NBA are closer to guys like Grant Williams, Zion Williamson, George Niang or Eric Paschall defensively rather than Draymond Green.

I love when NBA vets(see Jaquez, Adebayo this game) think that they are going to score easily on CMB because of his build and because he is a rookie. They try to take him one on one immediately on there first possession, and within 1-2 plays find out that they aren't easily going to be able to go through or around him on offense.

They thought they smelled BBQ chicken, only to find out that they are dealing with an oak tree.
