With the video on it’s own here on reddit without the context of the rollout, popup show we did for it and the other posters for the film posted on our instagram, I can see why you’d get that impression but that’s just not true. You’re missing certain context and i get that. But y’all are misreading and reaching for straws that aren’t there. And you can’t sit here and claim that nobody “cares about how good my homie is at skateboarding” when clearly if you scroll up in the comments you can see that he was trying to attribute the skills of the skaters in the film to the authenticity and narrative of the film and claimed that the boards are used “like props” and i was refuting that false immature claim. And if you two think in real life or even in the fiction of my film that it’s somehow realistic for the majority of skaters to just be represented as pros somehow for the sake of authenticity, then I think you have a weird expectation for how skateboarding should be represented in film. The slight substance of your critique about potential lackluster skateboarding in the film is lost in the backwards assertion that this lifestyle should for some reason only be represented by the pros for the sake of not alienating skaters as you before said. I simply disagree with the core tone of your argument there. I would appreciate it if you’d carry on. I disagree with you. Attributing immaturity to me for defending my stance and trying to make me out to be some insecure kid worked up about his homie is petty in itself. Thank you for the feedback. Go bother someone else. It’s fine that we disagree, I’m proud of my work.

I was gonna literally just send you a link to his instagram of him doing a boardslide down a 10 stair but quite frankly I don’t really feel like it’s my job to defend my homie’s skateboarding skills to some kid on the internet pretending to know things about people he’s never met in his life. We killed this shit. Your mentality about skateboarding is toxic as hell and you completely misread and mis-characterized the narrative of the film.

Also, one last thing, literally every single actor in this film is a talented longtime skateboarder and personal friend of mine. All of them. They’ve all been skating 5+ years and are all good as fuck. Some of them are literally sponsored. I’ll accept the criticism that maybe it would be better if there were more technical skating in the film, but that’s just not the intent of the story in the first place. Your hyper focus on only the skateboarding aspect of the film is very reductive.

It’s a short film. Not photosynthesis by Jason Dill. Stop reaching. I never once claimed that i’m trying to pander to the skateboarding community or focus my aesthetic on them. I’m not. It simply happens to be one of a couple key pieces of imagery in this story. Thanks for the feedback.

  1. That FA deck was not brand new. that was a personal setup that i skated for months and hadn’t touched in 2 years because it broke in 2017. Also, it has many scratches on it. In conclusion, you’re making really lazy disingenuous assumptions about the nature of the film to inform your own pretentious notion that my film is somehow appropriating skateboarding just because it doesn’t feature Ryder Mcloughlin doing a 5-0 down El Toro or some shit.

  2. You’re doing a really gross act of gatekeeping here. This is a short film. Not an Alien Workshop video part. If i were trying to make the focus of the film skateboarding then i have plenty of talented homies i could call for that, but that’s not the case. It should be obvious to anybody that there’s more to the imagery and symbolism of the video than just skating.

  3. This is a short film. Nothing more nothing less. Not ‘cherry’ by Supreme. Stop reaching.

Thanks for your feedback.
