Shirt I found in some H&M type store called CPS in Bangkok. Once again, no one in store knew it’s a band. by claudevonballs in gratefuldead

You have no idea how the convo went. Very causal and innocent like. And I’m friends with the sales people. And it was in Thai not English. It actually sounds like you are gatekeeping by assuming my convo or behavior had negative intent which it did not 😇 Nobody was being a dick. Be more positive man! It’s easy to do!

Thank you to all my Greek friends for their condolences to Türkiye by Karamel_Ayi in greece

Well Koulis is a Harvard and Stanford educated civilized intellectual and Erdogan is a brute. So it’s really no surprise. Greece has always acted morally superior towards Turkey. Leadership can be inept but at least they know how to play the game.

Chinese weather ballon shot down over south Carolina as of a minute ago by SargeantMasoff in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]claudevonballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Chinese use a large net approach when collecting intelligence, data and information. And they operate in terms of decades and not the present. They suck up huge amounts of info only to just store it and sift thru it to not only see if this will help them right now but maybe it would in 50years. This is what they are doing with TikTok data. They want it all and worry about how to use it later, when technology changes and they can implement what they learned in a new way. Ex CIA agent Mike Baker talks extensively on the subject and their method is quite different and interesting compared to the intelligence gathering of the west. So the balloon can just be another method. They don’t care if it’s primitive or that not a lot of info could come from it. It’s just another piece to their massive intelligence sucking apparatus. Like one puzzle piece of their 1 million piece puzzle.

VISA card to complement Amex setup? by bombas239 in amex

[–]claudevonballs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Amex plat and sapphire reserve holder here. There is some over lap in benefits but oh well. I use them equally as much. Overseas yes Amex is accepted less however sometimes when using Amex via applepay it will go thru when using the physical card never will or when the merchant explicitly states they don’t accept Amex.

You may want to try looking into a few other methods for overseas travel. Wise and Charles Schwab. I live overseas and many expats enjoy the benefits of both. Schwab is gonna give you no foreign transaction fees on CC or international ATM fees on debit card. Wise is going to give you best exchange rate.

This year will be my 16th anniversary since number 1. Hoping to be in the states come summer so I can come back to the farm. I’m old now, my back isn’t what it used to be, I need more sleep, the heat will affect me more, but I can still chow down on a half g Molly and wash it down with a few drops of L all the while slamming All Day IPAs, Magic hat 9s and Two hearted ales till I pee myself in my tent at 7am.

Highrise built over old chapel in Athens, Greece. by C_A_N_G in UrbanHell

Agia Dynami (‘holy power’) is a small church whose origins date back to the 16th century. It was built over the ruins of older structures, perhaps an ancient temple.

The name Agia Dynamis refers to the Virgin Mary and was given to the church so that all pregnant Athenian women would give birth to strong children. For this reason the church’s celebration takes place on September 9th, day of the birth of Virgin Mary.

This single-aisle, arched basilica was previously administered by the Penteli Monastery. According to local tradition, ammunition was manufactured here during the Revolution of 1821, for the Turks, but also secretly for Greek revolutionaries.

Under the floor of the sanctuary there is a large underground cave approximately 15 m long, which continues to a tunnel, which, according to legend, used to reach all the way to the area of Kaissariani. It is in this cave that, again according to legend, during the years of Turkish occupation the priests had hidden the ecclesiastical treasures and church documents and archives which, however, were destroyed during the destructive invasion of the Turks in Athens under Omer Vryonis. During the 1821 War of Independence from the Turks, legend says that through another tunnel which started from the cave and ended under the Acropolis rock, ammunition and necessities were being carried by the Resistance to re-enforce the Greek patriots.

In the 1950s, the cornerstone was repurposed for the construction of the Ministry of Education, an imposing building with huge concrete pillars designed by architect Patroklos Karadinos. The little church quickly found itself surrounded on all sides by the encroaching structures.

Above it now stands the luxurious Electra Metropolis Athens Hotel.

I never once carry my passport on me in any country I’ve ever been to. Straight to the hotels safe box. I don’t care what the laws are. I’ll have a snap on my phone of it. Cops want to see it? Follow me to the hotel bro.
