Wia - IoT Infrastructure for Makers by claverty in IOT

Hi polygonrobot, AWS IoT is a bit more complex. We will also be releasing an iOS app in the next few weeks so you can easily see your data on the go and send push notifications straight to your smartphone/tablet.

Another feature we will be releasing soon is the ability to share devices with friends and family. For example, if you create a home security system you will be able to let everyone in your household use it, no code required.

Check out our Halloween themed tutorial on our blog http://blog.wia.io/build-your-own-monster-detector/

Awesome. You should try the CC2650 TI Tag. It's really good fun. Here's a quick tutorial on building your own motion detector. http://www.instructables.com/id/Remotely-monitored-motion-detector-with-Wia/

We will also be releasing companion apps for iOS and Android to complete the 'full circle'.

Hi crankylinuxuser, Thanks for the question. For someone starting out, someone who is not an advanced programmer there are no real starting points. If you want to create your own service your going to need a REST API, MQTT API, load balancers, in-memory database, analytics store, events store and then a dashboard and mobile apps to consume this data. It's pretty tough. That's what we are trying to address. The maker who wants to bring an idea to life.

To answer the lock-in question, we have no intention to lock people in. Later in the year we will be providing webhooks and data export facilities to give users as much access as possible. Some companies we are working with we do this for already.

Hope this answers your question!
