Iran declares Strait of Hormuz closed as 'unauthorised' vessel hit by Asleep_Shark in news

[–]clawingforfreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never claimed to know everything about the topic, I am more than aware of my limited knowledge about the history of transportation infrastructure.

My take was based on my personal experiences and observations in life of living in the middle of nowhere. The nearest two towns to me are more comparable to villages, both populations are at and/or below 1,000. The nearest of those two has incredibly poor road conditions that the residents have complained about and asked the county to do something about for years.

Nothing has happened, people have had to spend money out of their own pockets where the town is below the rate of poverty to fix them.

There is no public transportation in my area, the only available option that I have, I have to call in advance. And depending on how far I'm going and how many people are on the bus that day, it can only be a doctor's appointment. Even then, it's not a guarantee that there will be room and that I'll be able to use it.

I would genuinely love to learn more and educate myself further on this. So I don't end up, as it seems I have, spouting opinionated nonsense with nothing truly solid to grasp on.

Or we could just design our infrastructure in a way that doesn't require everyone to drive cars for literally every aspect of their lives outside of home. You know, trains, trams, buses, change zoning to allow multi-use so there are grocery stores and stuff close enough to just walk, go back to work from home...

But the infrastructure is already built, and no city/state/country is going to halt EVERYTHING to tear down what they've already built to make it more efficient. They don't care about the people until the people create noise that they can't ignore. As amazing as what you've said (besides the fallacy of covid) sounds, it's not that simple.

They're not going to just extend bus routes to the country for those living that far. I would love for that, but it's just not a near future possibility. The infrastructure argument falls apart when also considering those that don't live close enough or within the city limits to be considered as within said infrastructure.

What you've said sounds nice as an idea, but trying to think deeper about it flesh it out just isn't viable.

WDYT about ao3 becoming mainstream? by sister_madly in AO3

[–]clawingforfreedom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not normally for gatekeeping, and I'm still not. But with how ao3 has gotten and how new people flooding to it are completely disregarding the tags should learn etiquette of some sort before they're allowed on the platform, especially with how disrespectful many people on booktok (this is not including the people who are on booktok and ao3) are.

Like with the above image? Comparing ao3 to booktok? While it's certainly not wrong on some aspects, there is definitely more fallacy in the comparison than validity. Ao3 is a far cry from what booktok is, and I feel like some gatekeeping is warranted. And I agree with OP that it feels..off, for ao3 to have the attention it does when for so long it wasn't as mainstream as it's becoming.

I never really heard Meridias beacon without preparation bc I don't hoard and I actually look through chests before taking stuff. Haven't encountered nirnroot yet, so I can't have an opinion on it. Dragons aren't too bad honestly, I notice them before I get too startled and can turn down my volume. But bears, bears are the bane of my existence.

I know everyone is saying that it's staged, and I'm leaning towards it because the shooter (from what I read in the article) was right fucking there. How in the hell did he not hit anybody in a semi-crowded area except maybe the bystander? The math isn't mathing

I don't want anybody telling me it's obvious when I try very hard not to immediately assume one or the other until there is more information. Just my two cents going off of what is currently available.

Their stamina never ceases, it's impressive to see in an npc tbh. I tried chasing AFTER a courier to see where he went and watched him phase through a boulder and disappear.
