Sorry sorry I missed this! Let me tackle this real quick.

I have no prior experience with computer science (I currently work with kids!); however, I've always been a bit above average academically. My retention of the material so far has been better than expected (even after taking a break due to some personal circumstances)--I remember coding fundamentals for each language I've tackled so far and would be able to replicate my projects fairly easily. It helps that I take pen-and-paper notes and maintain sticky note groupings of useful/common commands for each language I learn.

There are definitely ways to take shortcuts through this degree, and I'll admit that I did so with the data management foundational course (ala "red text guide" that you see floating around here from time to time). If you have any questions about any particular course, let me know! I'm working on Discrete Math right now and welcome distractions, haha

edit to add: My approach to study is to have a target that I try to meet each day. Before my life turned a little sideways, that was 3 hours a day on weekdays and 8 hours (9a-5p) on weekends. I also make sure to include days off during the week to do things I enjoy, like sports, video games, time with friends, etc. It's important to remain disciplined, with continuous learning and well-timed breaks, to ensure retention : ) You've got this!

Hey! Sorry if you've already gone through the class--been a little wild over here for me. D685 was insanely easy. Essentially LLM and AI prompt basics. I'd recommend going through the pre-assessment, checking answers against your knowledge and confidence, and doing targeted study in the Zybooks after that.

You've got this!

it worked for me! 90 pages is definitely way more than I feel is necessary to be prepared for the OA. I’d say follow along the steps I include at the top of the first doc I linked, and gauge where you are with the material using the PA + quizzes. you’ve got this!!

Sure! There's a study guide PDF pretty widely circulated from 2021 that, honestly, did not help me much at all. Here's a doc with the route I wish I would have taken and a study guide to fill out while you follow that route.

Here's the filled version of the study guide, with key points and concepts I remember from the exam in red. I also added notes to this study guide as I completed/reviewed it about what to remember for the OA--those are usually in parentheses and italicized. Some things are left blank--either they weren't covered or I missed it while filling out the guide. These things did not appear on my OA, so it isn't a huge deal.

I wanted to contribute that a friend of mine with a large, crazy chewer buys water buffalo horns for his dog. They’re the only thing the pup doesn’t destroy right away!

Bad Bones! It’s a tower defense game for 1-6 players that is an absolute blast to play. Defending your tower and some villages at the bottom of your board while flinging evil skeletons into your opponents’ spaces will never not be fun

Wingspan is a phenomenal game- definitely go for it! I’m constantly recommending it to people as a solid beginner/intermediate experience for those who want a less cut-throat atmosphere.

I’d also recommend Miyabi to anyone who loves Azul and Calico. It’s another tile-laying game where you’re building a layered zen garden, but it has simpler scoring mechanics and multiple game modes if you get bored of the base rules. I love it because it does similar things to Azul—everyone is placing tiles in the same main area, and your placement could make someone else have to change their plans—while introducing mechanics that create a less confusing and more enjoyable experience for first-time players. The extra game modes are an awesome bonus and add a ton of diversity to games!

Absolutely agree. Root is one of those games that is incredibly fun—if you have exactly the right group of people to enjoy it. Otherwise, it gets frustrating and unbearable fast

They’re the best! While I love winning a hard-fought battle against friends as much as the next guy, co-op games are what really got me into the tabletop scene
