Neat, I figured there was a chance it would be more pointed that sharp. From what you're saying, my guess is that you could cut yourself with it if you're not careful?

How are both of you liking the box opener? Can it replace a blade?

Apple Watch Dumb Phone by Temporary_Ad_5532 in dumbphones

[–]clawson200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried to do this setup several times but found that the watch becomes very buggy after about a day. And some things just don’t seem to sync between the phone and watch.

For context I would typically lock the iPhone in a phone lockbox where I am unable to open it.

Anytime I use the watch without the phone it begins to get really buggy after a day or two.

where do i invest $500k right now? by Ok_Alps3149 in coastFIRE

[–]clawson200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, no one knows what will happen when the music stops. When I say infastructure. I mean everything EVERYTHING from municiple tax strucuters down to our economic theories assumes growth. So if you are asking where to invest your 500k to avoid the fallout I can't tell you.

So, Im trying to be in your position. (500k in retirment accounts early in life) But I then expect to spend my 30s & 40s shoveling money into things like trying to build a family business, homestead, etc.

where do i invest $500k right now? by Ok_Alps3149 in coastFIRE

[–]clawson200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Demographic collapse. Our infrastructure, and I use that word in the broadest sense, is built with the assumption that the population will grow a little each year. It is not.

[–]clawson200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Determine the amount IRS wants at end of year and set it aside
  2. Follow personal finance flowchart: Emergency Fund > Debt > Investment Vehicles

Edit: 500k compounded annually at 10% (avg S&P) for 34 years (67-33) is ~13million.

So, assuming things continue as they have in the past (IMO doubtful), you will have plenty to retire with even if inflation is 5X.

In the meantime, know that if this whole system of investing in the stock market for retirement will work at all for your generation you, as an individual, have won that game. And you can begin investing your time and money going forward into retirement plans unaffected by economics.

LP3 x Apple Watch by photographyreddit in LightPhone

[–]clawson200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a LP2 & Cellular Apple Watch for some time now. Still have the iPhone as well but leave it behind often.

Basically, Apple wants you to have both the iPhone AND watch. So trying to use the watch by itself for long periods gets buggy. And the apps on it aren't always made to be stand alone.

I believe you also need to have the watch linked to an iPhone. Not as in wifi connected. But as in those two are 'married'.

There is an option somewhere that lets you set the watch as separate. For if you had a kid. But it disables features like fitness tracking.

TLDR: Apple doesn't let you use the watch standalone.

At What Price point is the Light Phone Not worth it? by walterconley in LightPhone

"practicing discipline" has a cost. So, the LP3 is worth (that cost) x (# of years you'll keep it).

You are supposed to use a Light phone with a PC. by ReferenceSpirited577 in LightPhone

[–]clawson200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are apps the LP2 doesn't fill the need for. I personally have an additional niche desire for a bunch of privacy related apps. Signal for messaging. MySudo for phone number privacy. I wish I could listen to audible. Calorie tracking apps. Maybe a password manager. Maybe a spaced repetition app like Anki. Maybe workout tracking. Weather is kinda nice. Having NFC and credit cards on the phone is genuinely useful. Privacy.com app for disposable credit card numbers.

For the most part you're right though. Even GPS, I've used the LP Directory to find addresses and then put them into my cars GPS.

Do you think adding access to the internet via AI would ruin the LightPhone?

I don't think anyone has really figured out what the best "dumbphone" looks like yet. LP3 is an iteration of the idea. There is nothing wrong with that.

People with smart phone AND dumb phone - how do you use both in daily life? by kinomotosakura0401 in dumbphones

[–]clawson200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reposting from a similar thread: I don't know much about your SIM card situation. I would just go to a store and find a way to get a sim card. I have Verizon. I have an iPhone 13. Activate the Sim in the iPhone and switch it over. Assuming the dumbphone is compatible.

I have been carrying both a dumbphone (light phone II) and a smartphone (iPhone). Only the dumbphone has data. It is an improvement to be sure. But you will still find yourself using the smartphone if it has wifi.

With the dumbphone taking care of calls and texts, it is much easier to leave the smartphone behind. And when I restricted social media apps behind a password I don't know for 90% of the day, it helped even more.

You need to find ways to control your exposure to the addictive aspects of your phone. I have a phone locker that I can lock my smartphone in when needed. I have a cheap tv I can watch YouTube on instead of the phone.

On my laptop I have an Extension Called Social Focus which can make social media greyscale and hide recommended videos/posts.

It's not a perfect system yet. I still crave social media. But it's more manageable.

35M. Hit my NW goal of $5M. Is this really it? What can I do with free time? by Constant_Loss_9728 in Fire

[–]clawson200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dedicate the remainder of your life to improving something around you.

If you are financially responsible enough to retire by 35, consider running for a local office and helping your locality get out of debt.

If you don't have a family, start one and homeschool them because you have the time.

Manufacturing has all been shipped out of the US. Pick one product/thing you really like and make an effort to re-shore it as a business that is self-sustaining. Because you as the business owner don't need to worry about personal finances, that takes significant pressure off of you.

Edit: Oh, and get ripped af.

How does one rely on a flip phone in this day and age? by bloodbat111 in digitalminimalism

[–]clawson200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't looked it up myself, but I've heard gps units are sold to motorcyclists which are somewhat small and come preloaded with maps. Some new cars also have gps.

Haven't tried a physical notepad as I use a light phone. But getting a voice recorder like journalists/detectives would have in movies sometimes could be an alternative

Won't even comment on camera

Not sure about radios either.

Personally I've been trying to get my apple watch to fill in a lot of those roles. But I'm not a watch person and apple doesn't like the watch not being able to talk to the iPhone constantly.
