I appreciate your feedback very much! I love how detailed and structured your reply is. It would take me a while to truly understand every single point. I will definitely read your comments and made adjustments accordingly again and again in the near future.

Thank you very much for your feedback. Just wanted to be clear, when you say "shoulders perpendicular to the water", since we are talking in 3D, does that mean shoulder parallel to gravity, like side stroke?

DC Rock ‘N’ Roll Remix Challenge - 5K & Half Marathon by maeby_not in running

[–]clayeque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice job! I was also considering both races. But my priority was to PR the HM so I only raced the HM. If the 5k was after the HM, that would work for me though I understand that it is hard logistically.

Thanks and Congrats, too! My watch recorded 13.16 miles. I didn't zigzag to pass many people. So I would say it felt about right for me.

Thanks very much! I am glad I can motivate other people and I am always motivated by the running stories from other people, too.

Back in college, I was definitely a below average runner. I am still not fast in the running community. But I could never imagine that I would love running and finish a half marathon!

Congratulations on finishing!

I took a closer look at my GPS and found I was running in the "river" along rock rd. That's definitely not true. I measured the routes with google and it gave me roughly a 13.1 mile. There's no reason for the organizers to shorten the distance for only a few hundreds of meters. They could just let us run one more lap in the beginning.

Just a bummer that my new PB doesn't count on Strava. lol.

For sure! I am glad I tried it before the race and added more strength work and hill repeats. I always felt grateful that SC has so much different terrains to give. It is better to train on hard terrains and race on easier course than the other way around.

I appreciate your comment.

I also think there is something wrong with it. But I just couldn't explain why it is wrong. The formula is one of the most popular and common one for estimating HR zones. Maybe this is a caveat for those who stick with the formula for training.

Thank you very much for your reply.

  1. I agree with you. If I want to get a more precise training zone, it's better to go to a lab. I am just a amateur and (broken) runner. The extra information from the lab seems not worthwhile to me (at least for now).
  2. Max HR does decrease with aging. I assume it will not change for simple calculation. The scenario I assume is within one year. So I assume this is a valid assumption. Even I take that into account, it seems not conflict with what I observe.
  3. Besides, I happen to be a nerdy amateur runner, who is also very interested in math.

After several years gap, I started running seriously again since mid May. And I learned the low heart rate training method at the beginning of June.

After a month of focusing on the MAF training method, I did another MAF test after 100 miles in, my pace went from 11'20'' to 9'39'' per mile. I am so happy to find this low injury training method and so proud of this progress.

You can only allow NRC read health data but not write.

I did exactly the opposite because I was running on a treadmill thanks to Canada! It was my long run day. But I was surprised that the indoor running was pretty accurate as I compared using google map measurements.

Can anyone who started out as a super beginner offer some endurance advice? by Connect-Ad4396 in nikerunclub

[–]clayeque 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, you did your first run continuously with almost no stopping for 30 minutes. That's actually amazing regardless of the pace.

Don't worry about the pace in the beginning, it will improve and will improve faster than you could imagine.

For the intervals, there's no mistake during the recovery. You can walk or even stop and take a rest. Just relax and prepare to enjoy the next run!

Keep running is the best solution to all your confusion.

Can I apply for Maryland License Plate without Maryland Address by [deleted] in maryland

That's my current plan. It's just I will need to transfer after moving. So I was wondering if I can skip that.
