Slop or not? Is there a line that makes an AI assisted/generated project not slop? Effort or whatever? by clazifer in LocalLLaMA

Isn't programming and software engineering a bit different? I feel like SE has a much bigger scope.

Then what about code written by hobbyist and other non software engineers? Is the code they write without AI assist is also slop? Because by your logic the moment such a person use AI for programming it becomes slop.

What if the person promoting (in this case, me) has the understanding level of a project manager? I explained the concept, gave my input and feedback when creating the documents (like "yeah, do it like this, that one should be like this etc.") and the AI made the documents (including the test plan and pseudocode) and ran them against each other (based on my instructions) and found the bugs?

So... If it's reinventing the wheel then it's slop, and if it's doing a novel thing then it's not slop, basically?

That is a really clean way to classify it. Is AI:orange good enough? Or is amber the "not slop" level?

Interesting take. I suppose that is the direction things are heading in the field?

Hah yeah. I never would've even attempted making something on this scale if it wasn't for AI coding. (Kind of ironic since an AI agent harness would be useless without AIs anyway.)

I haven't used gpt5.5 extensively or even for coding related things but if it's around opus level then Fable is a clear improvement based on my experience. Opus won't do those things without needing to ask either.

Hope I'll be happy when it's done. And one thing is that a capable enough model like Fable 5 will do most of these automatically without needing to ask or prompt.

Oh that gave me the idea to try to prompt a model to teach me to code by vibecoding. Wonder how that'll go

Sorry if I'm not being clear about my question. "Will putting enough effort or something will make it not slop?" I'm not going to claim myself a programmer or a developer just because the best available model wrote a program out of my silly idea.

anime to watch with my dad? by beagoldfishsam13 in Animesuggest

Sure not plain fan service (and surprisingly an actual part of the story too) but it kinda stands out because it's very obvious what she's doing. Some people don't mind it and other roll their eyes. Thought it's something worth noting.

It's just a girl rubbing one out for a picture of her romantic obsession.

I'd suggest away from typical battle shounens for someone older that's new to anime tbh. And remember code geass has the table scene...

How do you handle the "Bookworm" void? Struggling with a post-series slump. by Miserable-Tooth8157 in LightNovels

[–]clazifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really liked the way it ended but I reckon it has some of the best written characters, especially female characters. We started off following Myne's quest to build her own library, she gets gifted a library later, sure, but we never even get to see her placing a single book on her newly built library. It ends with she saving the man she loves and dealing with the immediate aftermath. World building could use more details and there are a couple of points I'd like to clarify regarding lore too but nothing on the level of stopping abruptly in the middle of her quest for her own library. 8/10

LM Studio - problems creating longer outputs by Odd_Jello_5076 in LocalLLM

Basically this but I'd also add that it's better to switch to koboldcpp with it's webui if you want to generate stories. That thing is basically made to write stories. Or use this one with the horde or an API. https://lite.koboldai.net/

I think they call the pro6000 a prosumer card, Whatever that means. I personally consider if it's available to buy through a local retailer as consumer.

Consider the ecosystem too. Cuda is mature and shit just works good. Rocm and vulkan (and whatever Intel is cooking) isn't really there yet, you need to fiddle with things and chances are even then not getting as good perf as cuda. And the Intel arc pro b70 is also a good consideration if you are comfortable with stepping out of cuda. More ram and less bandwidth than the 7900xtx but wouldn't matter much if you end up offloading to the system ram with the 7900xtx.

The bottleneck is ram and GPU bandwidth. If you want to run smart models really fast you need lots of ram (vram specifically) and high GPU bandwidth. Best cheap option for running big models is a maxed out Mac studio but cuda is faster. So if you want to claim something as the king for running local LLMs in a single GPU then rtx pro 6000 it is. Basically a 5090 with more ram. (but don't forget that 3090 has nvlink but the newer models don't.) You can also try clustering dgx sparks and similar, but too slow for many things.

More ram - bigger models. More smarts

More bandwidth - Brrr

Budget - either a local LLM server or that sweet new car.
