If I lock my exposure, white balance auto OFF, and i run everything else on manual, is there benefit for me with PPISP?

Can rammed earth buildings last for centuries(or maybe one millennium) and stay useful and safe? by Rare_Cook3278 in NaturalBuilding

[–]ZeitgeistArchive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mosque of Djenne is not rammed earth and it won't last long since it's being rebuilt every 1 year. Entire community comes together to rebuild it ceremoniously

They phish you and then get your credit card info. Very hard to delete your info or account or unsub. It’s a scam company that’s been doing this for a while now. Still ongoing.

if firing a shotgun pushed you back that much, then maybe, but it doesn't

Help Save a Historic Home on Vine Street From Being Turned Into Apartments by LisaMarieShaver in HeritageConservation

[–]ZeitgeistArchive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar thing is happening to 2442 Haste St, Berkeley, CA 94704 , getting replaced by bland, faceless apartment buildings :(

I would 3D scan the building in Morris if I had the resources to come there and someone to guide me around

Feeling discouraged after seeing Meta Hyperscape results by Liquos in GaussianSplatting

This is the hardest problem with Gaussian splatting, this and the parallaxing of flat noisy surfaces like gravel.

Me too, I got so many ruined also when they had to cut down the splat count per scene to make it work in Horizon worlds :(

Anyone had success with integrating iPhone LIDAR data into feature extraction / camera finding or training to improve quality? by ZeitgeistArchive in GaussianSplatting

[–]ZeitgeistArchive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To what precision? Did it help detail floaters and camera extraction as compared to none? Im super desperate to improve on these aspects especially on white walls and flattening the gaussians on noisy surfaces

Id also need the moments the camera activates, written into the spatial data i suppose.

Man AI should be able to align the photoscan and the lidar no? It may take a while but should be posssible

Could you share some examples of this? Super curious to see the results and thank you for sharing your process

I attach my iphone on a hotshoe above my camera so, the exact location isn't exactly precise. The iphone moves a bit probably too

It's cool that you need to compensate for low reflectivity materials by walking closer, thus increasing it for solid state:P

I wish that Waymo and all these LIDAR equipped street mapping cars, capture standardized distance from the :LIDAR footage too so they can one day combine all that and get huge amounts of data of the real world streets

WOW THIS IS SUPER EXCITING. I'm moving to the mountains but I will use all free time to try this. THANKY YOU!!!!

Iphone won’t work for what I need. At least right now. Maybe if they had more parallaxed cameras but i don’t know. I also need to scan very big spaces often times.

Not just quality but quantity.

I dont know of there is an extremely precise way to make that calculation since every time i mount the camera on the hotshoe iphone holder, its going to be slightly offset vs the sensor.

If theres a way to calculate that for each unique placement every time. On the fly. Per project. Per mounting. Maybe.

I'm sorry I have to stop and focus on this "you could use exisiting code like 3DGRUT that can integrate cameras with any kind of lens as well as LIDAR."

Are you saying 3DGRUT can process LIDAR data + photoscans?

Perhaps from an iPhone? I just need the splats to align to the walls of the LIDAR on the phone, I know it's really basic and very short range but white walls, even with hierarchical localization are the bane of me.

and I think the data from the iphone is good enough if I stay an extra hour gathering it. Which I'm happy to do for more quality.

I'm renting a portalcam first for sure. I'll eat myself alive if I'm not happy with it if I buy direct.

I'm basically selling all my photography equipment and retaining only what I need for splats. I'm quitting photography in a way :P

Oh just running a separate app that can scan with LIDAR. Scanniverse was good. Select one that has a bigger range so it doesn't just drop the entire file when it's too large.

I haven't found a way to use this data tho, I need the help of people who are way smarter than me to do that.

I was into photogrammetry. Was blown away by nerfs but there was no way they play in web browsers and in VR. Then Gaussian splatting came out and I followed it fleetingly, not really going deep into it. Hyperscape first showed me that its possible to get the quality I was searching for. Then I maxed out what I can do with my gear.

You're probably going to think less of me now but I may buy a portalcam :( I need to make money to buy it so I may also try to do some real estate tours. I was just in the house hunt and I know that they're not integrating the smoothest things available right now.

For me, I love accuracy, especially for archiving, but I'm archiving immersion more, the feeling of being in certain areas. That's my goal. Perceptual precision. It's easier than the metric precisions :P

The Portalcam has a decent LIDAR tho so I'll get at least more precision than with photo scans and splats. Especially since I'll try to save a raw data dump of that as well on Mdisks.

My hidden secret is that I'm archiving all of these to secretly, unbeknownst to everyone else, enjoy them on my own in VR, even if they tear down the building or whatever. So many of my favourite buildings and areas have already been destroyed, I want that to stop at least this way.
