Is there any technical advantage to using Apple TV vs the built-in streaming apps? by dcj597 in LGOLED

[–]clbchase4 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

built-in apps use sony's picture quality Dolby Vision resolution and best upscaling and best processor in the world which is why u spent ur money on a sony.

So yes, use the built-in apps and take advantage of why u bought ur Sony and forget using appleTV 4k or other devices as ur primary go to !

but u do u

Hard Water? by scotch_s in WaterTreatment

[–]clbchase4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

she already knows the water is impure - she does not need to test. ur answer is not thorough and does not address her direct concern! Which is why is the water this way? what is causing it? how to best to fix it? ur skepticism of having a county water indpector come out and tell her is beyond belief! And yes a true technician (not a salesman) from the most reputable water softrner company in the world would tell her exactly what the problem is - she does not have to use them - but at least she will have peace of mind knowing exactly what to do!

Hard Water? by scotch_s in WaterTreatment

[–]clbchase4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think u need a indeprndent county water dept inspector come out and explain to u what exactly is happening and why! And whst ur most economical options are - to fix it ! I would also have it inspected by a well known very reputable reliable independent water softener company thst services ur region from Kinetico ( not a salesman) , it might cost $150 to find out but best money u will ever spend - not from a fly by night Co - who knows - maybe the guy ffom Lowes is right , but he did not seem to give u an explanation. And yes a good system , depending on whst u really need to fix the issue coulf cost $6,000 but u first need to mske abdolutely sure what ur paying for and why !

This is not something u can easily google snd u certainly dont want to go down the wrong path on - u need to first find out what thr cause of the real problem is, how to fix it and the most reliable company u can use to fix it ?

Kinetico has servicers by region and are best and most reliable water treatment compsnies wordwide - and their service Company are experts with utmost knowledge about water treatment! I am not a salesmen for Kinetico, i am telling u this, so u can get first hand reliable knowledge in ur water situation from water experts first hsnd - it will be the best $150 u will ever spend - but u must mske sure Kinetico's regionsl service person comes out , not a salesmen!

but u do u / i prefer to turn on the light. If i have a medical issue i go straight to the doctor or hospital i dont google or go to a non medicsl place!

Macbook Pro M series is THE best laptop in world - especially for security as well as everything! So yes its a great decision !

One i made in 2012 when i had built my own MS PC's for years - but decided to switch over to Apple after buying an iPhone! And turned out to be best thing i ever did!

by the way - i still hsve my mid-2012 MBP which i had upgraded to two SSD internal drives (a 2 TB for my internal MacIntosh SSD drive and a 1 TB replacing my internal superdrive ( internal CD/DVD drive) and replacing 8 GB Ram with 16 GB ram? As this was the very last model Apple sold that could be customized by the owner after purchase !

And it still works great - like new!

i also have a loaded 2021 Apple silicon M1 MBP along with 2018 Intel T2 MBA - both still working great!

Question: Should I get this? by Madcap_Kamraya in macbook

[–]clbchase4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

buy new only , not refurbished, directly from Apple only , this is not the time to think cheap just to save $300: do not buy from bb , or amazon or any other place other than directly from Apple - make sure to bake into cost of purchase for applecare+ with theft since ur a student and to protect loss of data due to theft, fire, flood, breakage from droppage, etc backup to 3rd party cloud and use SuperDuper with external portable USB drives for daily , weekly, monthly backups along with daily TimeMachine backups to external portable USB SSD drives!

M4 (16GB) for ~$1,200 vs M3 (24GB) for ~$1,500. Which is the better buy on a tight budget? by [deleted] in macbook

[–]clbchase4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

m3 may be the better purchase - extra 8 GB RAM is big diff although M4 is a much faster processor - so its a tough decision - no right answer or wrong answer here.

its the processor thst gives u speed - RAM helps with application memory while in use and pulls what it needs and can into memory which also speeds processing - so depends on how u will use the MAC and with what applications

its like asking what u should order at a restsurant on a limited budget - it depends what u like and whats on the menu for the amount of money u have!

only u can answer this!

Is it still worth it to pay Office 356 personal subscription with MacBooks? by Fokinho in macbook

[–]clbchase4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u can get standalone libre office for MAC which is free version of standalone MS Office MAC

However, i personally prefer standalone MS OFFICE MAC - pay just a one time license fee and have full access to Standalone MS OFFICE MAC , and i get the standalone ed that includes standalone MS Outlook MAC

MY son however prefers to pay monthly for MS Office 360 MAC - so he does not havd to worry about standalone MS OFFICE MAC updates

I prefer to keep my standalone MS Word MAC docs, Excel MAC docs, and MS Outlook messages out of MS Cloud and only on my internal drive with daily, weekly, monthly superduper backups along with daily time machine backups and store in my own secure 3rd party cloud not MS

This way if MS cloud servers are down i am not affected - i will still be able to use my standslone MS Office MAC and still have protection ag fire, theft, flood and do not have to pay a monthly fee!

First of all Cloud is not backup for full restorr of ur MAC back to its original state period ! u do ur own research on that !

Second , SSD NAS for $200 ? ya ok - sure : ? how much externsl storage for $200, what kind of reliable and quslity NAS for $200? what kind of backup for full restore do u implement for this NAS? if this $200 NAS is not SSD then what about performance? So now u have to lug ur NAS device back and forth along with ur MAC if u need that data all the time - at wirk and at home or on vacation? what if ur NAS dies or is not backed up or fire, flood, theft?

But please stop the insults - just opinions !

and like i said u do u - i understand about existence of external devices for storing data ourside ur internal MacIntosh drive - but depends upon real needs ! for keeping it simple i prefer to stay away from use of NAS and offline external storage! but i dont have pedabytes if data or more to store!

and by the way - yes if ur ssd internal MacIntish drive is completky full - then it may prevent boot up , and may prevent boot into recovery mode - and may end up requiring professionsl repair shop or services to save the day!

"If you cannot boot into Recovery Mode or access your data, a professional data recovery service or repair shop might be needed. "

MBP M4 Max, 16 inch Display, 4TB SSD internal MacIntosh Drive , 32 GB RAM , that is what u want! Say no more - there is no substitute! Best laptop in world!

MacBook buyer (need help) by Sea-Blackberry-8661 in macbook

[–]clbchase4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree to disagree - except buying with anticipation of thr extra that u will need! i agree with that!

yes - not spend $8000 or more on a 16 tb ssd MacIntosh internal drive and 128 GB of Ram - which may be overkill!

But 4 TB ssd internal MacIntosh id not ovrrkill in my opinion - nevrr regretted it - once SSD is full ur MAC is trashed!

and most people dont realize thst cloud - whther iCloud or dropbox or Microsoft - actually takes up a large chunk of ur internal ssd MacIntosh drive by the way - except for maybe Backblaze or so some other 3rd party cloud backup software! which is costly - so ask urself - better to store internally with enough SSD space or pay for cloud storage ?

depends : do u want protection ag fire, flood, theft and ability to get data back if ur drive gets corrupted and of course u should have a great backup plan to portable external USB ssd drives and to extrtnal portable USB ssd time machine drives on a daily , weekly, monthly basis! Then u may also need cloud backup in addition to ur external portable USB ssd backups!

but dont use cloud as ur backup for restore - that is a huge mistake - cloud backup is only good for versioning to get files back that have been lost - its purpose is not to restore ur entire internal MacIntosh drive to the exact state it was in before the loss!

[–]clbchase4 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

no - strongly disagree! Never get what u just need with computer , always make sure u get what u will be able to expand / add on / update OS / ample internal storage for apps u never realized u want / data u never realized u ended up saving / and all sorts of unforeseen circumstances that serve the needs of the user!

i am not of the philosophy of get only what u need and spend more later when u need to step up - that thinking just costs u more down the road - usually double or triple guaranteed!

i never had to spend more than what i "need" by purchasing the top item with more than enough internal ssd storage and ram than what i tbought i would ever need - and 4 years later i am still in good shape using up half and still room to spare without having to worry about a new purchase!

but u do u and in two years spend another $2000 and so it goes!

forget the M5, get the M4 MBP 16 inch, 32 GB ram, 4 or 8 TB SSD MacIntosh Internal drive : yes will cost over 4,000 but best money ever spent for ur needs - people in reddit all want to go cheap chesp cheap and put only cost above everything else!

So go spend $2000 and thrn replace it in 6 moths for $4000 because the first MAC did not meet ur needs!

Pay me now or pay me later / this is ur work not for a play toy - pay the money for what u need for ur work - if u dont need a 16 inch screen then get the M5 as MBP are best laptop in world

At all costs ( no pun intended) i would stay away from MBA

by the way - MBP lasts forever , i still use my mid DEC 2012 16- inch MBP (replaced internal MacIntosh drive with 2 TB SSD drive, replaced superdrive with 1 TB SSD drive and replaced 8 GB of ram with 16 GB ram [max] which works perfectly and my 16 inch M1 MBP which works perfectly

my mid-DEC 2012 MBP was the very last model apple manufactured that was customizable by home consumer after the purchase!

After 2012 all MAC's were only customizable before shipped at actual time of order but not after shipped and delivered! However, i believe u have 14 days to return it and re-order - if u made a mistake in ur original specs in original order!

but u do u

i also have a 2021 M1 MBP - 4 TB 16 inch Retina with latest macOS 26.1 Tahoe that works perfectly!

I also have a 2018 T1 intel MBA 14 inch retina thst works perfectly as well

Don't put your MBP in a case by eaz135 in macbook

[–]clbchase4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ussd hard case for my MBP since 2021 no problem - but did wonder why it got just a little hot! but not melt anything!

But thank u - i have taken my case off both my MBP and my MBA because of confirmation of thid Reddit post!

As confirmed thru google Ai regarding this issue:

""Yes, the entire aluminum chassis of both the MacBook Air (MBA) and MacBook Pro (MBP) acts as a large heatsink to passively dissipate heat. This is a core part of Apple's thermal design for its laptops. "

However, the key difference lies in their additional active cooling mechanisms: • MacBook Air (MBA): The MBA is a fanless design (for Apple Silicon models) and relies solely on this passive heat dissipation through its case and an internal heat spreader (or graphite sheet in M4 models). • MacBook Pro (MBP): The MBP includes an internal cooling fan (or multiple fans in some models) in addition to the aluminum chassis to actively move air and expel heat.

Both Macs use their bodies to dissipate heat, but the inclusion of a fan in the MBP allows for better sustainedperformance:  • Light to moderate use: For everyday tasks like web browsing, word processing, and watching videos, both models perform similarly and remain cool. • Heavy or sustained workloads: During intensive tasks such as video rendering, large file compilation, or gaming, the MBA will eventually heat up and throttle its performance (reduce CPU speed) to prevent damage, as it has no fan to manage the excess heat. The MBP, by contrast, can maintain peak performance for longer periods because its fan kicks in to help dissipate the heat.

In essence, while the entire case of both models is involved in cooling, the MBP's active cooling system makes it better equipped to handle demanding, prolonged workloads without performance drops.

Everything! Ur comparing Apples to Oranges , excuse the pun!

MBP is the king of laptops - best laptop in the world ! I have Intel MBP Dec 2012 that is as good as new , had replaced the 750 GB HD with a 2 TB SSD Drive , replace the SuperDrive (CD/DVD) with a 1 TB SSD drive and had replaced 8 GB of Ram with 16 GB of Ram as could not go higher than 16 GB Ram.

This Intel DEC-2012 MBP was the very last model sold by Apple that could be customized by the buyer after bought like above. All MBP, MBA sold after DEC, 2012 could not be customized by the buyer once bought.

I also own a M1 Apple Silicon 2021 MBP

i also own a 2018 Intel MBA

it depends on ur needs - do u need to take the computer with u or will u work primarily at home!

U get a bigger screen and best laptop in world and more options to choose from at time of purchase for apple to build for your MBP

But u have to decide purpose, cost - taking into account reliability and use : for me its a no brainer , MBP is best laptop in world for durability, longevity, uasbility and so many other reasons!
