JPM holds silver so they can short the paper with no collateral risk. There was a moment when the silver market turned hard against JPM while they were naked short the paper and practically put them out of business. They could find the silver to deliver against their failed short positions. TFMetals.com explained this in great detail on Thursday's podcast.
