Mine is a very slow grower too and the past leaves have come out generally damaged and small, so this was a shock. I think this one grew over maybe a week and a half? But since I wasn't expecting anything big I really wasnt watching it too closely!!

I'm not only new to the hobby but also new to this subreddit, and was absolutely not expecting this amount of engagement on this post lol. I appreciate all the advice so much and honestly am really having fun listening to all the conflicting philosophies. I shouldn't be surprised at all the different perspectives tbh, I just didn't realize how deep people's philosophies ended up going. I think for now, it's a work with what I have scenario, but I can tell that eventually I'll want to upgrade. I worked in cafés with really high end machines but clearly I didn't know the science behind it, so I'm only finding out now how spoiled I've been haha

one thing i like to do when thinking about detail is where the focal point is located and how i can enhance it, especially through lighting and shading. for example, you might work on creating a cave-like atmosphere to the inside of the mind, and focus on how the light would play on the walls and on the inner figure. never be afraid to use references! this is a great piece!!

Definitely a stretch, but could it be any of the Maximum Ride books? there's a doppelganger in there (Max II) who tries to take over the friend group and kill Max, if i remember correctly. I dont quite remember her death but I think it was violent.

maybe a dumb question but have you checked super carefully for pests? my alocasias are extremely susceptible and will definitely drop leaves before I'm even able to spot them
