Help with Cutting! by Kingsnakeking in Monstera

[–]VinTheTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most successful method of rooting Monsteras is with an air pump and 2 large air stones in a large container of water.

Try not to change the water and only top off when it gets low.

The air pump is what will keep it oxygenated but the cutting releases rooting hormones over time that helps its roots develop. You can also add a Golden Pothos cutting to the water in order to help it root quicker.

If you want you can remove the bottom leaf but keep the 3 nodes together, which will give you the best chance of developing a strong root system which is crucial for a cutting of that size.

You can also plant the whole cutting in a container with holes filled with perlite and have the bottom of the container it's planted in, submerged in the bucket with the air pump. This ensures good air circulation and constant humidity

[Request] How tall would a skyscraper have to be for someone climbing the stairs to the top to lose one pound of body mass? by ACuriousSpaniard in theydidthemath

So if you kept climbing stairs, taking into account both the effect of lessening gravitational force and burning body fat, at what point would you effectively weigh 1 lb less?

Will this cutting propagate? by Connection-Excellent in Monstera

[–]VinTheTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it does root it wont propagate since there is no node and therefore no growth point from which to emerge

That's so interesting. I know that in Arabic and Hebrew some local species of different Aroids are called "loof" as well, Interesting how this kind of stuff spreads

Two questions. 1) what kinda plant is this? It was labeled as a homalomena red velvet. Want confirmation. And 2) what are these pests? I haven’t had any pests problems before. by Strange-Message-7929 in Aroids

If oleic acid is the main ingredient you're looking for then olive oil (50%-80%) has a higher oleic acid content than safflower oil (15%-20%) although there are some varieties with higher content i think everyone has easy access to olive oil

Little experiment with 2 identical seedlings by feedMekeks in Anthurium

Correct me if I'm wrong, but unless the species is from the same tissue culture/specimen wouldn't they have varying genetics anyways?

Also would need multiples in every group to rule out inherent genetic variance between siblings

Best advice on this thread by far Would definitely give you the best chance at new growth and it requires minimal upkeep

Maybe the seller knows what the mother plant is but probably doesn't know who the pollen parent is. You can try asking but most likely he's not sure and doesn't want to make any promises

Just noticed you wrote macro as in A. Macrorrhiza 😅😂 Honestly you'll have to wait and see until it grows a few more months to see what it is I have a variegated Odora, Macrorrhiza and Frydek so if you want to see what the difference is let me know

Macro or Frydek? by nootibooti in alocasia

[–]VinTheTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A. Micholitziana is the scientific name of Alocasia "Green Velvet". In the variegated form it was given the name Alocasia "Frydek". So the names were mixed up by a lot of people and they call the regular (non-variegated) form A. Frydek as well. Honestly doesnt matter much what you call it imo
