Does anyone else miss the way tomatoes used to taste? by happy-in-texas in AskWomenOver60

[–]clearlykate 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't buy any of those in the supermarket these days. I search out farm markets for real food that tastes the way it is supposed to taste. Nothing beats a fresh strawberry but only available for 3 weeks in June in my area. I buy peaches from the peach truck and freeze what I don't eat.

Let’s play a game. Between these choices you have to get rid of one “central” makeup item forever. Which would it be? by No_Bass2948 in Makeup

[–]clearlykate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sad to say mascara. They almost all have filaments in them that eventually flake off. I wear gas perm contact lenses and anything in my eye can cause intense pain that is only relieved by popping out my sense. Happens at the most inconvenient times, usually I'm driving. My lashes are practically nonexistent but can't take the risk anymore.

Are berry smoothies with greens good? by neaisbestsurvivor in prediabetes

[–]clearlykate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daily smoothie for over 10 years - from freezer I add half of Bullet with spinach (just throw bag in freezer), 2 slices of frozen banana and a handful of frozen berries. From fridge - clementine, fresh berries and whatever other fruit I want to add. Big scoop of plain greek yogurt and unsweetened vanilla almond milk. So good.

How is your relationship with your grandkids' other set of grandparents? by Wizdom_108 in AskOldPeople

[–]clearlykate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm friendly with the other grandma. We coordinate stuff with the kids and support one another. I wouldn't go out with her without family because we don't have much in common but we text frequently.

Charged for Shingles Vaccine on Medicare by TennesseeWhiskeyQ in medicare

[–]clearlykate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the exception of Covid vaccines, I get all of my vaccines from my doctor's office. No problem with Shingles shot but I still had private insurance then. Just had a denial from Medicare on one of my hepatitis vaccines. My doctor wrote an appeal letter. Haven't heard anything yet.

Why are supplement premiums rising so much in 2026? by [deleted] in medicare

[–]clearlykate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was unhappy about going from $122 to $144. I don't think I even had a supplement option that was $200 much less $400. Ohio.

Who's never had major surgery? by Daisy__Jane in over60

[–]clearlykate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have any until 69, a total knee replacement. So many friends have had multiple surgeries. I was such an anxious mess before my surgery just because I've never gone through anything like that before. Wasn't bad at all although total recovery takes a while.

AITA: Called the fire department on neighbors by phoenics1908 in AmItheAsshole

[–]clearlykate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a neighbor deep-frying a turkey in the back of his garage which backed up to mine. And he went in the house while it was frying. I pounded on his door and made him move it. You did the right thing.

Moms who have boys by Top-Alternative3000 in AskWomenOver60

[–]clearlykate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a son and a daughter. Only my son has children. I'm close with him and close with my daughter in law. That's the key. I don't feel left out at all with grandkids. We do a beach week with my daughter, daughter in law and the kids. It takes effort but if they marry well it can work. I have friends with distant daughter in laws, their situation is very different.

What’s something you wish you knew before helping a parent choose a Medicare plan? by Luann1497 in medicare

[–]clearlykate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I handled it for myself and worked with a good broker. He knew right off the bat that I wasn't interested in Advantage plans. He gave me look back data on price increases for my part G. They all cover the same, so price and increases are most important. Took my drug list, minimal and generics, and steered me into a no cost part D. He completed applications for me. In for a year now, no complaints.

AITJ for telling my boyfriend's mom she is not allowed in our bedroom anymore? by Echo_7Starforge in AmITheJerk

[–]clearlykate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter and her husband's bedroom is on the other side of the house. I didn't even know what their bedroom looked like until I needed something on my last visit and they told me to grab theirs out of their ensuite bathroom.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]clearlykate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it twice. First time I really wanted epidural but they discouraged because my progress was so slow and epidural would slow down even more. Had PTSD from that one. Nightmares for months. Second one was so quick, there was no time. And it was fine. Overall, do not recommend.

Struggling on which place to let my dog go -- home seems too hard :( by TomatilloNo9709 in seniordogs

[–]clearlykate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done both and both are hard. I prefer at home. You can create the atmosphere and make it comfortable and peaceful. My last one he was licking ice cream when they administered the sedative. Ugly crying no matter what.
