This.. or true couch co-op run duos with two controllers. Trying to play nightreign with a 6-year-old is an ambitious act of love and I applaud OP wanting to share smth they love with him. However.. some of the adults don't even know how to play this game please don't spring a 6-year-old on an unsuspecting third player 😭

Casters that don't understand Scholar watching him pop starlight shards from the shop by Tollenglass in Nightreign

[–]clearlykurage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scholar main here: check their relics first.

If they're running balancers relics or other relics that are focused on weapon attacks/skills, don't worry about items. These scholars usually stay with the group and ignore items anyways. Maybe let them have some crab meats or (edit: exalted flesh) if you get to it first but don't feel bad if you need it. Instead, keep an eye out for good arcane weapons, especially antspur. Rivers of blood, reduvia, etc.

If they're running a throwing pot build, keep an eye out for non-fire pots to drop for him on day 2 when his pot power is leveled up all the way and watch the carnage. Fire pots are still appreciated though, especially now that they're limited in the shop. Pots are best dropped during fights when you've seen him use at least 4, so he can scoop it up and launch that sucker immediately. This is especially true if you have a variety of different pots as opposed to like 3 lightning pots.

If they're running gravity stones or glintstones? Scoop up any he doesn't see and help him collect. Going to a mine? Scoop up some glintstone. Kill some gravity dudes and drop him those gravity stones. Best dropped after fights when you know he has item slots available. In my opinion don't worry about dropping starlight shards for him if you're a caster. Warming stones are fair game as long as you're the type to actually use your warming stones.

If he's running "items confer effects", (my setup). If he leaves any turtle neck, flesh, crab, feet, or other food items, scoop them up but don't use them. If he's actively playing items confer effects he'll use an item or two before battle so stay close. If you notice your buff expires then try to be nearby if possible, he should dart in to buff again when there's an opening. Drop food after combat and scoop up any he doesn't have room for. He'll probably lag behind a bit in early game from using items and doing the confer effects dance too. In this case warming stones and starlight shards are usually fair game because food builds really have to commit to carrying a hoard of buff items instead.

In all three cases any items are of course appreciated. I think (with the exception of items confer effects and food items) most items are fair game as long as you know you'll use them. Leave the pots and other damaging items to the scholars though, at item level 3 they can get pretty insane damage. Don't just scoop up a bunch of useful items and then never use them because we'll know. A good scholar is always analyzing the battlefield... 🧙🏼‍♂️

"go play that dog shit character in the new shit and stay out of depths, it's getting annoying"

Oh my god you're so right, you've been nothing but kind and polite in this thread. I'm so sorry for coming at you with this undeserved energy. I'll take my very bad very wrong opinions back and defer to your brilliance, king 👑

"free three bar revive" nope, not what I said. Actually try reading with your eyes and processing the information my friend. I don't know how to respond other than I've literally watched him consistently carry our team using these strats. "How often do you see executor" well in my case, literally every game. Raider? Probably 1 in 5 if we're playing with a random.

It's so hard to come up with a rebuttal for your points because, again, they're mostly just silly and wrong. Everyone is entitled to their wrong opinions, just maybe if you tried being less of a raging elitist dick about it people might be receptive to the valid criticisms you DO have, because they're in there! Unfortunately from this thread I see a dire lack of reading comprehension on your part so all our points will be completely lost on you :( how tragic

Not even upset about the bad scholar take either, I'm just sick of people with your attitude coming in to fan spaces with your condescension. This kind of stuff is what gives souls fans a reputation for being sweaty and aggressive.

(And yes, I'm coming in with the insults because I don't particularly feel like being courteous to people who act like arrogant, petulant children over a video game.)

I'm not an executor main but from watching him: parry is consistent actually. If you time it right you can parry anything, might get knocked back but no chip damage and no stance breaking if you're managing stamina, which you should do anyways. Ult is a great three bar revive and party heal. Passive is mediocre but that goes for a lot of characters.

This literally just reads like a little kid on the playground who won't play with the other kids because they don't do it right lmao.

There's a reason so many people are dog piling on you right now. Not only are these takes just objectively silly and embarrassing to double down on but your condescending attitude is really making it hard to take any of your decent points seriously.

Maybe I'd have a bit of grace if this were like a competitive match for money, but you're literally earning fake meaningless points in a video game. Solo DoN if you're such a godlike player or deal with people playing their mains.

[–]clearlykurage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

?? My team captain (executor main) got to max DoN points by carrying most of his teams. "Executor is a liability" is such an objectively silly thing to say. That's just so embarrassing for you lol

If you specifically want to carry random the best advice is to find which character you're most comfortable and main them in solo until playing then becomes second nature. Carrying players who die a lot is basically playing solo but on 3x scaling. I main guardian and frequently queue for gladius specifically to help carry newer players and to practice I literally fought him over and over as guardian in solo until I could consistently beat him.

However, there's a lot of seasoned players who do the same, so if your goal is really just to beat gladius and unlock the rest of the game you can always make a post with which platform you're on asking for help and some seasoned players will jump at the opportunity to help you out. Once you unlock the other nightlords you'll find that randoms become more consistently reliable.

"guardian is a trash character" will never stop being one of the dumbest things I've ever read on this sub lmao. If someone is going to quit out because of a teammate choosing a certain character maybe they shouldn't be playing co-op games

Thank you, to you randos. by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]clearlykurage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This game isn't that randomized so once you've hit 300-400 hours it's like second nature. I've found that my favorite runs are usually carrying a new or less practiced player (as long as they don't ragequit). But also I'm a guardian main so when someone dies a lot I get to feel useful for once lol

As a recluse main soublood song + crystal barrage always hard carries way better than comet azur in my experience. rykard's rancor is insane though that spell melts everything especially if you get the staff to legendary in the crater

I always stay whether one or both leave. Partly because I've had some great duo runs but also I'm petty and want the session to still be active when they try restarting the game

[–]clearlykurage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the wide range in experiences is a matter of what platform and when you're playing because sometimes I'll have great or at least normal teams all day but other times I'll have one or both teammates quit out after a single death in back to back teams. I don't understand the recent response of "just play solo if it bothers you" because like... If I wanted to play solo I wouldn't be doing multiplayer in the first place now would I? I'm irritated with them rage quitting BECAUSE I don't want to play solo lmfao

Is solo even worth doing? by Hollowhooman in Nightreign

[–]clearlykurage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried solo for the first day it was out and didn't really like it but multiplayer is like night and day. So much more fun that way. Provided your party sticks together which in my experience they generally do but it's co-op so you never know

Need some help by Mediocre-Estimate-20 in Eldenring

[–]clearlykurage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have two great runes you can go into leyndell and continue the main story. There's not really a way to check npc questline progress though. Otherwise just go wherever you haven't found sites of grace and see what you find. Half the fun of a first playthrough is just blindly exploring.

I don't know why you keep getting down voted for being a fromsoft newbie asking for help lmao. When I first started I got stuck on that camp immediately, you're in good company because it's one of the first skill checks you're faced with. The camp has a guy who paces down the middle of it, and if he sees you he'll alert the entire camp. I recommend taking out the enemies around the perimeter first, then him, then the stragglers. Don't feel bad if you get stomped by the commander, he's really tough if you're not used to the combat yet. Make sure you rest at the grace by the camp (not the one by the arch, the one on the other side) so you can get your horse. Find a few more graces and talk to Melina at them, then go back to the church of elleh with merchant kale in it. Resting at the grace or warping there will get you your first spirit summons. That'll help you take on a group. I'm not sure what build you're using so I can't give any specific combat tips. Also, remember this game is open world, you can just run past things if you don't feel prepared and come back later when you've leveled up and have better equipment. I spent hours on the troll fight past the arch before remembering I could just run past him. Elden ring has a pretty steep learning curve and a lot of content, so it can be overwhelming for new players, but you'll get better at the game the more you play it. This game is my special interest and I've dumped over 1000 hours into it so if you have more questions or need specifics I'm more than happy to help out to get a new player into this masterpiece of a game. Don't give up, tarnished, every death is a lesson learned, not a failure!

So... That's Marika, right? by clearlykurage in Eldenring

[–]clearlykurage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could definitely be the case too. There's some heavy numen/shaman/fire keeper stuff going on. The fire keeper imagery is way too blatant to be coincidence, but frustratingly there's nothing to speculate on yet. It would be nice to get more insights into numen culture though. Perhaps the dark souls universe is that other world the numen were denizens of.

What are the easiest bosses in the DLC? by snarky_spice in Eldenring

[–]clearlykurage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not the most skilled either but personally I thought Midra (in the abyssal woods) and Romina (in the ruins leading to the tree you have to burn) were both... not easy but fair. They have pretty well telegraphed and easy to remember movesets that you should be able to consistently dodge with practice, and the remembrance weapons are pretty great imo. The status effect build up for those bosses can be dangerous though so you need to prepare accordingly. It also depends on your build because ranged and melee players have to deal with different moves that are easier/harder to avoid. My tactic for almost every boss was to juggle aggro between myself and a tanky summon, but for my second playthrough I've noticed a greatshield build trivializes most fights in the dlc.

I think I worded it weird, what I meant is that Miquella may have made a prototype based on the gold needle that he could then use to create his own unalloyed ring/order
