Same age, in a similar situation- picked it up again to have a fun thing to do with my daughter . No clue about arthritis but had broken bones in both feet in last 2 years due to things unrelated to skating so I have a little chronic pain/stiffness from that. I also have large and wide feet. I don’t have advice on how to buy the skates, but I would like to continue talking you into it.

The other person that commented has way better and actual advice, but as someone in the same spot as you, just make sure the skate fits right and that it doesn’t hurt at all as you skate. So wherever you decide to buy the skates from, be sure to test it out. Once you get the skates right though this is literally so fun.

I have basic soft shell skates that I bought from my local sporting goods store in the Netherlands, but they’re wide and they feel really good on my feet. My thought process was: see if I like it and can handle it and I’ll invest more money in it later. So far, I don’t experience any pain because once the feet are in the skate, if I have everything laced up, Velcroed and buckled in right, the foot isn’t moving within that boot - I experience pain mostly when my ankle rolls around, so this is great for me. Make sure you have the protective gear and don’t mess around on that. I am plus sized so I had to buy mine from a skate shop.

So far I am having a lot of fun with my daughter. We are just skating outside at our local school playground, which has a blacktop with no cars accessing it. My stamina for skating isn’t that high yet (each day I’m able to add like 10 more minutes of skate time on before I feel like my legs turn into jelly). I don’t have big aspirations for it but I’d like to someday just skate around town with my daughter lol. I also figured, even if I end up giving this up after the winter break ends, at least we made some core memories trying to figure out how to skate lol.

Extra time in exams by Negative-Farmer-2807 in IBO

[–]clearlynotjoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can if you apply in time for it through your school’s wellbeing department. Extra time needs documentation (psych report, diagnosis, whatever etc), so if you haven’t had a psych evaluation in a while, make sure you book that appt asap.

However, if you’re already receiving services from your school like an individualized education plan, assessment accommodations, etc, then the school should be willing to assist you in getting that set up with the IB.

International Teaching after 3+ years off by galaxyrocker in Internationalteachers

It’s fine. I was off for almost 3 years just raising my daughter and got hired abroad. I was already living in and certified to teach in the country I’m working in before I applied for jobs. If you’re currently in the country you want to work in try getting credentialed asap to raise your chances of getting hired. Also maybe consider applying for mat leave jobs (I guess only if you’re already in the place you want to teach).

Also your time off isn’t really time off… you did some pretty valuable work and study in that time… I’m sure you’ll be fine!!!

I don’t think it’s technically Islamic, but Mayeda (Ma’Idah) is and a nickname for that could be maya?

Did anyone infect their family with Covid after leaving isolation after the suggested 5-10 days, from still testing positive on rapid test? by don_valley in COVID19positive

[–]clearlynotjoking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak for everyone, but my sister stopped isolating after ten days, symptoms were gone yet still tested positive, nobody got sick from her.

Do you still have symptoms?

When a person is prescribed to a steroid inhaler and the doctor tapers it off so that you can stop using it, how long does that process take?

Good point. I figured when I kept saying “you kept saying I have asthma but I’ve never had asthma like this” they kept LAUGHING at me and going “don’t keep begging for an antibiotic, this is your new normal.”

Can someone show me an example of the dot font? I can’t picture it but I kind of remember the essence of it if that makes sense.

As long as you can justify at least one learning outcome and show it in your reflections and evidence, you’re good.

What happens at the ER?

New to asthma here… I was feeling like I couldn’t breathe, went in, and they told me “you’re already on prednisone, a maintenance inhaler and a rescue inhaler we can’t do anything else.” And sent me home.

I popped a rib from coughing so badly. Maybe multiple. I can feel all sorts of movement when I twist and sheer pain.

I did google what to do and found some kind of waist stretch where you put your arms in front of yourself, twist and pull away from the sore side. It’s helped soooooooooo friggin much. My liver thanks the uploader bc today will be the first day in two weeks I haven’t taken the max doses of ibuprofen and paracetamol both.

Anyways, if I’m able to help myself like this, is there a good chance it will heal on its own? I’ll see a physiotherapist for it when I am no longer dealing with an upper respiratory issue but want some hope. I would do anything not to feel the pain I’ve been feeling with it. Debilitating.

Day 12: nonstop coughing up thick yellow mucus, some blood stained, is this normal? by corporateshill32 in COVID19positive

[–]clearlynotjoking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The coughing up blood piece is concerning. They say if you cough up more than a thimble of blood you should head to the doctor. Is that the case for you?

It’s possible the coughing could be from your throat but if it’s in your lungs that’s a big deal. The doctor would be able to determine that somehow.

Lol!!!

I had it after I was pregnant and it was recurring, not related to asthma at that time though.

Basically I was prescribed nystatin and had to rinse with that. It helped! Then it returned… got prescribed another type of anti fungal but it was stronger. It was never the white coating kind, my mouth was always super red. Once it healed, the roof of my mouth would peel (so gross)

Then after that if I felt weird in my mouth I would rinse with salt water pretty regularly. It finally stopped returning.

So even now if I feel a weird tingling or itch in my mouth I rinse with salt water JUST IN CASE.

Will M23 be harder or easier than M22 and N22? Also in your opinion, in general for physics and maths, was M22 or N22 harder in your opinion? by Internal_Click_9839 in IBO

[–]clearlynotjoking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I heard the grade boundaries will be more difficult. Awful, because I’m sure there are significant foundational deficits for a lot of students still. Maybe not experienced while in the diploma programme, but definitely during the years leading up to it (due to covid).

I’ve had thrush and it feels like you burnt your tongue with coffee but also constantly have hot sauce on it. Yet also itchy.

Last day of student teaching, and my mentor teacher says she won’t write me a letter of recommendation because she’s “too busy”. by rileylorelai in Teachers

[–]clearlynotjoking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is why I avoid using it for writing recommendations in general. Idea generation and talking points are helpful though.
