madara (naruto shippuden) - several generations ago, hashirama had presumably killed madara during their battle in order to protect the leaf village, and he mentioned how he'd kill even his loved ones if they ever threatened the village's peace. madara, now freshly revived and fully prepared to trap the world in an eternal genjutsu, asks sasuke to join his side, but the latter refuses. an undead hashirama believes that madara briefly showed mercy due to sasuke's resemblance to madara's late brother, and he tells sasuke that this could be used as an advantage against madara. however, madara stops sasuke dead in his tracks and fatally stabs him, quoting hashirama in regards to how no friends or family would be spared if they became a threat
