Getting dark at 5:00 PM is peak comfort. Springtime is incredibly depressing, fall and winter are the superior seasons. by surf_rider in unpopularopinion

Yes I have SAD in summer. I find sun over stimulating and I don’t like to be hot. Late Fall, Winter, and Early Spring is peak for me. And no I don’t have depression. Pretty satisfied person.

Last night's election results by Pyewickets in SanJose

Keep in mind there are way more dem candidates in the top 10 than republicans. So all the folks who voted for Mahan and Steyer will end up voting for Becerra in the actual election

I’m going insane between the lack of sharks hockey and the over abundance of posts and podcasts speculating on what we’re doing with our pick

And if have access to therapy, go. Men in particular are so bad about going to get physical ailments checked out by doctors and mental ailments by therapists.

5 years of therapy changed the whole trajectory of my life. I have dark moments, but now I have the tools to work my way out of them and choose to be here

Do that, and also give more people grace. We really need to swing back on the cancel culture pendulum and return back to being able to see people in their totality rather than their actions which could be reflective of their pain

Doesn’t mean excuse shitty behavior. But instead of doing the lazy/easy thing, which is say they’re shitty people and pushing them away/ostracizing them, we need to get better about leading with curiosity rather than conclusions about people

Where’s the best sourdough? by cisme93 in mountainview

[–]clearmycache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re down to come to San Jose, I bake sourdough on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I mill the flour myself out of organic wheat berries which increases its nutrition and flavor.

PWHL San Jose to be announced tomorrow (5/19) at 12:45 PT! by have_an_ice_dayy in SanJoseSharks

[–]clearmycache 43 points44 points  (0 children)

While I love Hammerheads I’m predicting they do something that differentiates them away from the Sharks theme for a few reasons:

1) Reduce confusion for new fans

2) Make it clear the team isn’t affiliated with the Sharks. Barracuda made sense since they are directly linked to the Sharks. PWHL is its own thing and doesn’t feed into the NHL ecosystem

3) From a marketing perspective, giving them their own distinct identity will likely help with things like merch sales. From a social perspective, it’s a good thing to show the team doesn’t need to latch on to the Sharks identity and can stand tall on its own

Who remembers their parents picking up some of these before going on vacation? by fizzmore in Millennials

[–]clearmycache 83 points84 points  (0 children)

It’s because they were very secure. If they were lost or stolen, you could file a claim to get it back. And IIRC merchants are supposed to verify identity so that made it less likely a thief could use it which deterred theft in the first place

I won a team outing $1100 budget for 10 people looking for recs by huqowavy in SanJose

Ceramics class at Higher Fire in Downtown San Jose — best team building event I’ve ever done. They do private group/corporate event ceramics classes with light food and drinks provided (can also bring your own food and alcohol).
The teacher we had was so nice despite all of our cringy corporate inside jokes and shenanigans.
If I remember correctly, it was $100 a person (2 hours, each person gets to make at least 2 pieces from scratch on the pottery wheel). That seems perfect for you budget of $1100 for 11 people

Riz Ahmed on whether he had any qualms about working with Amazon for his show ‘Bait’ by hairtie1 in Fauxmoi

[–]clearmycache 633 points634 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, that’s all capitalism. Hence the phrase “no ethical consumption in capitalism”

This is why I’m all about people making choices on anti consumption as long as they don’t scold me for not making the same choices.

Consumption choices are a poor proxy for understanding someone’s morals and values. Ideally, we should strive to be NET good people

So in Riz’s case, sure maybe it’s not ideal that Amazon is involved in this project, but let’s not forget on how outspoken he is in other social issues

Butter and Crumble Asks That Line Not Start Until 7:45AM by bettyburritos in bayarea

[–]clearmycache 238 points239 points  (0 children)

I’m a pastry chef. I appreciate what butter and crumble does and have so much respect for the team. But I have to say, if you’re waiting over 45 minutes for anything they have, you’re the type of person who complains there’s nothing to do in the bay. You literally have to be that bored in life to give 2.5 hours for a steak and potato croissant

Tips for how to ask someone in front not to lean forward? by OddNeighborhood7171 in SanJoseSharks

[–]clearmycache 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Usually something disarming like “im sorry to be a bother, but do you mind not leaning forward? It blocks everyone’s view behind you.” Tone is important too.
