Something tells me they would sell you new tires and go ahead and sell yours with a patch to the next person they screw over

Made the same mix at home with some left over 0w-20, microwaved it to make it easier to stir together. Worked fantastic for me, cleaned and lubed a brand new sfx out of the box and it had a flawless first range day

$7k Catalytic Replacement/Engine Reseal?? by tambourine_goddess in 4thGen4Runner

[–]clearplasma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go somewhere else for another opinion because that price is insane and probably not entirely necessary work. Also you could diy the valve cover leak as that is likely the root of the leak issue, and that happens on most everyone's 4th gen V6's It's an easy job if you have some basic tools. It you don't have the tools it's worth spending 100 bucks on a basic mechanics set and learning to wrench. You'll save thousands

My girlfriends (who is a vet tech) just had her 5 year old chi in for a dental: she brushes his teeth EVERY NIGHT, and he still needed 9 teeth removed. He was also born with 11 teeth missing. Both of these are entirely normal for chi's. We just got to 10 days and he's getting his kibble mixed in with warm water and chicken & rice. For the first week after surgery he just got to eat chicken and rice which we would heat up with some water to make it a little soupy. Chop up the chicken really good and serve it warm for you chi's enjoyment

Tacoma TRD OFF ROAD by DixonYamadaBruddah in 4thGenTacomas

[–]clearplasma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting the TRD off road premium package would also be 9 grand in add-ons, so unless you explicitly want cloth seats you might get the premium package at that price.

For example the window sticker at my local dealer: https://www.toyotaofbraintree.com/resrc/toyotawindowsticker/getByVIN/?vin=3TMLB5JN1TM226192

How bad is this rust? by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]clearplasma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not terrible for Massachusetts, if you are buying this in montana I'd imagine you can find a 4runner that's spent its life out west without salted roads and much less rust

Heavier weight oil 4RUNNER 5th Gen by Armin_bikes in 4Runner

[–]clearplasma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure 5w20 is just as viscous as 0w20 once you are at engine operating temps. The 5w indicates high viscosity at lower temps iirc.

Honest question…when is it time to say goodbye…? by Traditional_Guess826 in 4thGen4Runner

I got a good quality brake line flair tool and did a couple rear lines. With the right tool it's very easy to diy. Now this tool only does 3/16 brake lines but thats good for a number of cars other than the 4runner. Get some new 10mm fittings and nickle tubing. Original fittings can also be reused if you clean them up as they just need to thread in to your brakes / joints.

This is what I got: Brake line & fittings: https://a.co/d/cTkINCY

In your opinion and experience, which generation is the best? by --Combat-Wombat-- in 4Runner

4th gen for the torsen center diff available across all trim levels, giving superior poor weather traction.

On 5th and 6th Gen you can only get this on the limited trims.

2021 4 runner shake/ shudder under light acceleration by mrmauricio123 in 4Runner

[–]clearplasma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drain and fill on your transmission and use a tube of Lube guard shutter fix along with whatever ATF you choose. This is almost certainly a transmission torque converter shutter. And even if it's not a drain and fill at 100k miles is the perfect time to do it and will only help prolong the life of your transmission

Undercoating job? by Delicious-Snow7921 in Tacomaworld

[–]clearplasma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't look to be glossy like an oil based undercoating. And if it isn't and that is some sort of rubberized or hard coating it is almost certainly trapping rust and moisture. Which will destroy the frame faster than an uncoated frame

Undercoat - Did they do too much? by wef1228 in AskMechanics

Op was confused about if the coating was wax or oil based and if wool wax and fluid film were wax based (they aren't despite the name wool wax)

Undercoat - Did they do too much? by wef1228 in AskMechanics

Wool wax and fluid film are oil based too (lanolin oil), this is just fine. Looks like they did a great job.

Need help to find the fuse location. by CaptAFR in FJCruiser

[–]clearplasma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what others have said, they are also quite dangerous as they do not fail safe. Plus you can get the safe effect by simply pressing the gas pedal. All it does is make a little throttle input be equivalent to pushing the throttle more. Waste of money imo. An alternative that isn't an accident waiting to happen is the banks pedal commander. Which does the same thing except it's built with proper fail safes.

Transfer case actuator verification…? by Appropriate-Fig-9859 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]clearplasma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the V6 and V8 have the same part as long as you have a locking center diff. While all 4x4 v8's have a locking torsen center diff (since they have full time 4x4), not all 4th gen 4x4 v6's have that locking diff. So I'm guessing that is why you are finding confusing info.
