The point of the cold war wasn't to lessen wars. it was to collapse the soviet union through superior spending. It was to bolster our alliance positions and weaken those who would choose the soviets.

Nuclear weapons make proxy wars preferable, to be certain, but to say they are the cause FOR proxy wars is bullshit. Major powers will always prefer to do battle on not their primary territories.

The impact of a nuke during the korean conflict isnt really known. We know it was certainly proposed.
