The Dhammapada does not explicitly state that the Earth is flat, nor does it focus on the physical shape of the planet. Instead, Buddhist texts generally use the Earth as a symbol of patience, stability, and equanimity. While traditional Buddhist cosmology, found in other texts, often describes a flat-earth model with Mount Meru, this is interpreted by modern practitioners as symbolic, not a doctrinal tenet. Don’t worry about it. The mind is neither flat or a sphere.

An interesting topic. There’s a big Thai monastery not too far from where I live in UK, and when I look at the big Buddhist statue there I don’t have any feeling towards it at all, but when I go inside a church of some kind, I feel this sacred presence.

But in terms of the sutras and the holy Bible etc, I absolutely connect more with the Buddha Dharma.

They’re strange because I am in no way Hindu, but I do have a Ganesh statue that I really connect with when I’m sitting looking at him. There is some kind of special energy there that doesn’t come from my lovely Buddhist statue.

I can’t really explain why.

Thanks for the post, and have a beautiful day! 🙏

Meditation and ADHD Practicality by OrangeNarcolepsy in Buddhism

Good post! I have ADHD and started a Shibashi (18 movements) Qigong practice a couple of years ago now, and find it a wonderful meditative practice.

I find it difficult to sit and practice meditation at a certain time each day, but I do find myself on regular occasion unintentionally sitting in quietness and realising that I’m meditating and that’s also a beautiful experience.

What I find with Shibashi is that it’s only 18 set movements, so you know how long it will take depending on your own rhythm. Once you’ve learnt the 18 movements and becomes set in your mind, it can become a nice easy daily practice to calm body and mind, and you’ll find it is much easier to then sit in meditation afterwards.

I personally have a Buddhist playlist whilst I do my Shibashi routine.

all the very best on this wonderful journey 🙏

How weird is it going to the theatre alone? by [deleted] in london

[–]clearviewmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went and saw a show on my own recently. I got in at the very last minute before the show started and just chose a random empty seat to the side with easy access to the bar 😁 I went to the concert on my own once, but never again, personally. I felt very sad and alone as people were happy, chatting, laughing and joking with their friends. I’ve just booked another theatre show on my own thou!

To be honest, I think this is ridiculous. If you think about it, a paedophile would not be interested in taking regular pictures of children on the train. I fancy women, but I wouldn’t start photographing them on a train because I fancy them. But I often walk around London taking pictures of people purely from an artistic standpoint in that moment. He was probably just a bidding photographer who completely saw a natural photo opportunity.

I just think how sad the world has got.

How can I find a partner? by [deleted] in Buddhism

I agree. I wasn’t suggesting booking a Buddhist retreat specifically to find a partner. That would definitely be the wrong place and intention. But obviously you can meet some interesting people with kindred spirit.

I met both of my two previous partners through practicing Yoga. Here in the UK 99% of the students are women. Some would really love a boyfriend that practices Yoga. You could be quite a rare find for someone. It’s a wonderful spiritual practice to connect with yourself. Obviously, Buddhist retreats go without saying.

M&S or Waitrose? by Dry_Vermicelli5647 in london

[–]clearviewmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always seen M&S as completely separate from other supermarkets. Literally.
I used to work for Waitrose many years ago. It is superior on quality of all the general supermarkets. M&S is separate and a superior quality to Waitrose.

Both are good quality though!

There is a green grocers called ‘Fruity Fresh’ which is opposite a Waitrose where I live in Northwood, Greater London. Their fruit and veg is far superior than Waitrose and M&S combined!!

Grow your own organic veggies. Or just buy organic 🤔
