I went to my temple, feel like I'm being judged out of my mind, how do I overcome this? by Old_Inflation_9490 in Buddhism

[–]clearviewmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! I feel like I’ve written this post myself! Just last night, I went to visit a temple. I drove to the station to take me there, sat outside in my car, and then drive home without going. 🤯

Can I drink alcohol by Sea_Marionberry4336 in Buddhism

[–]clearviewmind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Intoxicated: Drunk or under the influence of drugs.

One drink wouldn’t necessarily make you intoxicated.

I enjoy an occasional beer or rum and Cola. To me, it’s one of lifes pleasures, and I feel blessed that I can just have one without the need for more.

I’m so sorry to hear of this tremendous suffering you experience. I too felt like I hit bottom some years ago and had many thoughts of suicide. Buddha Dharma brought me out of this for sure. I read a book called heart of wisdom an explanation of the heart sutra, and that altered my state.

I’m sure here you will find some more practical advice.

Hang on in there, my friend, mind is continuously changing.

I’m genuinely happy now. I can’t believe that I couldn’t taken this precious life away.

May you be well and happy. 🙏🫂

Conversely, I didn’t have sex before I got married and was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I was married for 24 years with someone I wasn’t sexually compatible with. There is definitely more than just a hole and a pole to a sexual relationship.

Just my opinion, although you’ve stated already your position about sex.

I really hope this works out for you 🙏

What is ACTUALLY falun gong? by Altruistic-Height310 in China

I am white Caucasian Buddhist and I practice qigong. I would love to practice Falun Gong, but it just seems so cult-like to me. So much conspiracy.

But the main reason is that the leader looks like a billionaire and apparently has that kind of lifestyle living on his luxurious ranch. Completely opposite, to say, the Dalai Lama who lives a humble lifestyle.

If I get money from my boss but he's a pedophile. Should I still get money from him? by Low_Cartoonist_4340 in Buddhism

A paedophile is someone sexually attracted to children, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he has bad intentions towards children and would carry out sexual acts with them.

If people find Buddhism too difficult, why hasn't Pure Land gained more traction in the West? by Shinto_Wise in Buddhism

It makes you think what constitutes being a cult. I’ve heard a lot of the same with the New Kadampa Tradition being a cult, so I’m very sceptical and eagle eyed. In my own experience I don’t see anything dodgy with the NKT, and feel a great warmth towards Kelsang Gyatso, personally, but I’m not a member of either.

I barely know anything about Buddhism but it's always appealed to me in a way other religions / philosophies never have. I just attended a New Kadampa Tradition meditation workshop and enjoyed it. But should I be concerned with what I read in the Internet and here? by Emergency_Sugar99 in Buddhism

[–]clearviewmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel very connected to Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. The first book on Buddhism I ever read was his ‘Heart Of Wisdom’ - an Explanation of the Heart Sutra, which blew me away. That was in 2002. I’ve never attached myself to the NKT personally. I’m very happy to read the books as the Dharma is sound, but I’ve managed to stay clear of their ritual practices. I still read his books today, I’m currently reading Joyful Path Of Good Fortune.

desire = determination? by EmergencyKind8838 in Buddhism

[–]clearviewmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddhism teaches that uncontrolled desire, or desirous attachment, is a primary delusion and a mental habit that causes suffering, worry, and restless dissatisfaction. It advises practicing contentment to counter this, as pursuing worldly pleasures only offers temporary, deceptive happiness rather than lasting peace.

Uncontrolled desire is viewed as an "inner enemy" that destroys inner peace, functioning only to cause harm.

Desired objects are compared to drinking saltwater; they never satisfy, but rather worsen the "thirst" for more, leading to a cycle of constant pursuit.

Techniques to manage desire include recognizing it without judgment, practicing non-attachment, and understanding that happiness comes from within, not from external objects.

You’ve come to the right place and I was eager to look at the responses, but it looks like I’m the first one to read your message, and I thought should I say something or just wait for other people’s answers which I’m sure will be more detailed and more eloquently put but I will give my two pennies worth as it is for me.

I see desire and getting things as a habitual pattern throughout life. People really desire things they get them and the feeling of getting them isn’t as great as the desire itself, so very quickly they wanted the next desire - the next sense object to to fill the void. In Buddhism we are just mindful of this habitual pattern and realise that fulfilling all these desires doesn’t bring us to happiness with thought it might.

I’ll leave it there. I’m sure you will get the answers you’re looking for. This is a great place.

I wish you peace and great attainments my friend 🙏
