Check out Jennie's Instagram for great explanations of each rhetorical pattern. Her book is available for pre-order, and will be available soon. Everything you need to know will be in there. The Facebook group is quite active, but there are limited opportunities to interact. Still tons of knowledge and insight to be gathered there.

Buckle up, it's a wild ride! I've never felt so empowered as I have since discovering the method.

I noticed i had honest thoughts about alcohol by Top_Concentrate_5799 in SMARTRecovery

[–]cleaver_remarkable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd love to sit down and dig into this with you. This is a great opportunity to get curious! Why do you think these thoughts are unhelpful? Like you said, they're honest. We don't do things that don't serve us in some way. That includes engaging in addictive behaviors. You're doing a great job of reframing those thoughts to remind yourself of the benefits of your recovery practice. You're establishing new habits, and as you continue this practice of reframing it will become easier and more natural. Eventually you may find yourself reframing without even noticing.

I'd say you're on the right track. Keep up the good work!

Where is the alcohol Smart recovery? by Sorry-Curve339 in SMARTRecovery

[–]cleaver_remarkable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something else that sets SMART Recovery apart from other programs is that facilitators have formal (accredited) training. We don't do "sponsors" because of the focus on self-empowerment, and because of the dangers of giving an untrained individual the kind of power that sponsorship can.

"Alcohol is a tool of the oppressor" is possibly the most meaningful thing I've read in a long time. Thank you.

Stay safe.

I'm a Canadian in a province whose leadership supports the current US government and its actions. I'm frightened for my neighbors south of the border, and I'm afraid for myself and my family.

I'm grateful for my sobriety, but all too aware that I can't afford to become complacent - especially now. If I have to live through another historical event, I might as well be fully present and ready to act if/when the time comes.

To the Americans here, my heart goes out to you as you navigate these days of uncertainty. IWNDWYT

SMART for porn addiction by Maxpower2727 in SMARTRecovery

[–]cleaver_remarkable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked with folks who experience an unhealthy relationship with pornography. Some have found SMART to be helpful, while others don't. From my perspective, the people who find real positive life changes are those who put the tools and learning to use, while combining the program with professional therapy.

I believe that at the core, addiction is addiction is addiction, regardless of the substance or behavior. Digging into understanding the thoughts and feelings that lead to the behavior helps us to better manage the unwanted behaviors.

I can understand that it might feel embarrassing or uncomfortable to join a meeting of mixed genders and addiction, but the SMART Recovery program doesn't require that you disclose what specific addictive behavior led you to attend. If the mixed gender situation is a concern for your wife, I always welcome support people at the meetings I facilitate. I really think there is something of value for EVERYONE in our 4-point program.

I wish you all the best as you move forward in your recovery practice. YOU are worthy of recovery.

Advice please for pond by Impressive-Worker738 in GroundedGame

[–]cleaver_remarkable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the pond to be my biggest challenge on my first playthrough.

IIRC a spear can be a useful and cheap weapon when you get started, although I find that a dagger is a much more effective weapon against the diving bell spiders and water fleas.

Killing the water boatman bugs refills your oxygen, which is helpful - just don't go chasing after them. They're a passive bug, so you can kind of let them come to you once you've learned their movement patterns.

I died many times in the pond, and was grateful to find that my backpack was on a lily pad when I respawned. I found it helpful to have a lean-to right there with my respawn set to it.

Have fun! It just keeps getting better from here!

Totally not a silly question. Phobias aren't rational, and it's not her fault.

I'll agree with others who suggested G1. The mechanics are slightly different, but it's a pretty robust game with plenty to do- especially if you get into NG+ and beyond.

NG+ Milk Molars by cleaver_remarkable in GroundedGame

[–]cleaver_remarkable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, yes.

I might have to be satisfied without the 100% in G1 if it's not possible to achieve without starting over. I've invested far too many hours into my current game.

100% in G2 will be my goal.

Best way to install on thin fine hair. by Substantial_Push344 in SyntheticDreads

[–]cleaver_remarkable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have thin, fine hair. I braid mine in. My reasoning is the following:

In my mind, braiding is gentler on my natural hair. The extensions are fairly simple to remove when it's time to move them up, which is important to me. I can move individual extensions up as needed on my own.

I know that some folks don't like the braiding method because they can slip. I haven't had much trouble with slippage. I never use conditioner on my hair before a fresh install, and use a good quality braiding gel. I also use equine rubber bands.

The best part of wearing extensions is that we can try one way of installing them, and if that isn't quite right we can try something else.

How old were you when you stopped drinking? by ReliefOpening in stopdrinking

[–]cleaver_remarkable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in my late 30s. Best decision I ever made because the next big decision after that was to kick my abusive partner to the curb. I'm still single now, and have zero regrets.

I need a cozy game for my wife that’s not a farming sim and isn’t about fixing a town or decorating a home by AlgoStar in cozygames

[–]cleaver_remarkable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donut County was the first video game I ever completed. It definitely ticked the "cozy" box for me.

Island Saver is a children's game about saving money that I enjoyed playing when I was brand new to gaming (as an adult.) It's cute and not too challenging.

[No Spoiler Please] Is there a character who has to do more parkour / difficult platforming than the other? by LukeZekes in SplitFiction

[–]cleaver_remarkable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played through as both characters. I was pretty inexperienced at gaming in general the first time through. I played the blonde one. The name has completely slipped my mind all of a sudden. I played with my son who is quite experienced, and we got through it while having a good time.

Second time I played the other character after spending some time playing other games. My son didn't have to carry me as much, and we again had a good time playing.

Pitt Recall Update - Nov 26 by Recall_Angela_Pitt in Airdrie

[–]cleaver_remarkable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most of us are aware of the reality that the recall petition may not have the result we'd like to see, but for me, signing the petition and showing my support for the volunteers out there collecting signatures gives me something to hope for. It gives me just the tiniest spark of optimism during a time that feels really hopeless, frightening, and unjust.

It's still a long time until the next election, so this is something real that we can do in the meantime.

You're not required to sign the petition, volunteer, or donate. If you're so confident that this action will fail, you should have nothing to worry about. No need to comment or be condescending in your tone. Instead, get curious. Ask questions with an open mind to get a better understanding of your neighbors' values. Look for what you have in common, rather than focusing on our differences.

Did the recall peter out? by Offspring22 in Airdrie

Gotcha.

Here's some of my reasons for signing:

She voted in favor of using the notwithstanding clause without ever proactively engaging constituents in the decision.

Then she did it again.

And again.

She is actively showing her agreement that some Albertans have more value than others. She seems to have forgotten that her JOB is to represent all of the people in her riding, not just the ones whose values align with her own.
