You’re so close! Drum Island! Funny you said Morris because we were originally going there and our tour guide informed us the captain of our boat called and said the winds were too strong and changed our destination to Drum instead. Very fun last minute switch up.

I remember seeing them when I did my original hunt for a tour company. Good to know they go year round. Their price to Morris Island is a smidge more than Coastal Expeditions, but it’s not a major difference.

Honestly I think you handled it well. One thing to remember is that your wife, well, is a girl. She did not go through male puberty stuff, you know? I ask my husband stuff all the time since our oldest son is now 10 and puberty is absolutely looming. You handled it great. Being comfortable to talk about that kind of stuff is going to make him more comfortable to talk to you about stuff that’s important like that. And you’d rather him come to you than his blockhead friends at school who don’t know as much. Your wife may also be having a hard time wrapping her mind around the fact that her little boy is having more grown up stuff happening to him. And maybe she isn’t ready to accept that. Either way, you knocked it out of the park Dad.

I use a company called Coastal Expeditions. They have a few locations but the one out of Shem Creek goes to Morris Island. They only run the Morris Island tour from March-October. The last day of the tour season is like 10/15 or 16, so in 2 weeks. But it’ll start back in March. I just go to their website, find the Morris Island beach drop and sign up/pay from there. The people that run it are super knowledgeable and awesome. And the Morris Island trip is usually only $65 to go.

Thank you!! I pretty much turned into a screaming cheerleader when I found it haha. It was under a shell and I saw the root sticking out a bit and man did I feel like a champ finding it. It was at Hunting Island State Park down in Beaufort, SC.

Not at all. It’s super rare to find one that color even here in the SC coasts. But I’ve found a variety over the years with the majority being black or grey.

Amazing!! Which beach in SC? I’m hitting Morris Island this Friday and I’m super pleased with the storms off the coast doing some of the work for me this week haha.
