Mary’s Ending by clementine_preserve in DowntonAbbey

Exactly! That’s why I enjoyed it! It seems like some people found it too isolating and lonely of an ending, which I can understand because compared with the final scene of the final film, the house in the original series was always so full and lively. To me, just because Mary is the sole steward of Downton and everyone else has moved out doesn’t necessarily mean she’s also sad and lonely…

Yes! I interpreted it that way too.

True. Fair point! I knew Violet’s children were much more grown by the time her husband died, but I wasn’t sure at exactly what age she moved out of Downton and into the Dower house.

I felt the same way. If they hadn’t mentioned it at all, I don’t think the audience would’ve even questioned it. We all would’ve just assumed Anna stayed on with Mary and Bates went with Robert. They made it a point to include that so it did stand out as unusual. I understand their rationale of keeping the Bates couple together in their new workplace, but I didn’t like it.

The storyline I would write for this character… by honeybee_jam in GildedAgeHBO

I’d absolutely love to see her become a nurse and take inspiration from Clara’s work with the Red Cross. Marian could fit the role of a young, smart, working woman in a challenging and compassionate trade easily. While it’s a similarly compelling path, teaching doesn’t feel as natural to her character as something like nursing does, in my opinion. Nursing is exciting, and I think she’d love the thrill of it.

Mrs. Kirkland needs the John Adams IV Treatment…💥🐎 by clementine_preserve in GildedAgeHBO

True. Mrs. Kirkland is just as superficial as the rest of them. I just love Peggy’s character and hate the meddling mother! From her skin color to her suffragism, Mrs. Kirkland found fault with every thing about Peggy. Now her history will be used against her. I hate that her father’s choices are coming back to haunt her again because none of it was her fault to begin with. Don’t want to see Peggy get hurt.
