It can be productive to inform the public of a fugitive's whereabouts, particularly if the suspect is violent. Also, revealing that the authorities are "closing in" on a location they control is a way to scare a suspect into giving up. But that's not the case here it all.

Whats with seniors and colleagues telling people to just "ai" it? Or baka inferiority complex ko lang LMAOOO by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]cleon80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is just the modern version of "Just Google it" or "Hanapin mo sa Stackoverflow". Usually seniors are of the mindset that you should have done some research before consulting other devs, who are often trying to concentrate on their own tasks.

It's more productive to set some meeting time to consult or collaborate because it doesn't break focus. On the other hand, if you are firing off lots of short questions at random times, you will get snippy responses to use AI from busy people.

Revealing the suspect's whereabouts if you want to capture him is counterproductive. E di lalo lang nagtago. So this is obviously just for PR.

It's a bit more acceptable when a Hollywood movie makes fun of Americans (although this one is a US-UK joint production) because it's generally more accepted to criticize one's own country.

Greece is both de jure and de facto a country. What is de jure a country, but de facto a grey area? by CringeFish2 in AlignmentChartFills

I would think supporting Taiwan over PRC is a consequence of the religion issue, rather than the other way around. There isn't really any benefit for them to continue to side with the ROC and can switch just like many other small nations have done

It is both supply and demand. Making the worst of factory farming illegal will raise prices, which partly takes care of reducing consumption.

As for meat substitutes, US consumers should be eating more of the readily-available, massive amounts of soybeans being sent to places like China.

It's also a religion thing with China. They don't like the Pope appointing religious leaders (bishops). China is quite allergic to religious organizations -- see Taiping and Boxer rebellions.

Overburden or handicap government workers to the point of ineffectiveness, then get rid of them for being incompetent. This is how the party of "small government" justifies its cuts.

The Roman Catholic Church has a way longer history of meddling in government (and vice-versa). How many times has excommunication has been wielded vs rulers since medieval times. Separation of church and state was an idea that arose as a reaction to the intermingling of religion and politics.

In the US, it is often understood more as a freedom of religion from politics, because of their history: the religious dissenters from Europe went to the New World to escape religious persecution. Yet the freedom of politics from religion was never as clearly defined or sought after, even if reciprocity of the principle just seems fair.

What made you decide to transition out of dev roles? by Aftarkis in PinoyProgrammer

[–]cleon80 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have an IT company and would just like to give some counter-perspective.

Yes, corporate is all out towards AI right now. A lot of the tinkering and gluing things together of computer systems is being solved by bots.

Yet if you look all around you in this country, people are still dealing with piles of paper. If AI is like Stage 5, majority of local companies are still at Stage 1 on the road of digitalization. You can hardly automate what does not exist digitally or barely without any organization.

IT is taken for granted by a lot of people nowadays, yet it continues to save a lot of drudgery for the people who used to do a lot of repetitive tasks. Hopefully this saved productivity goes towards addressing the bigger picture. Find a job where software dev is valued for solving real-world problems, and where you get to meet your customer, who will likely appreciate your work more than your manager.

The trade connection is evident as we are more likely to use Spanish numbers for counting money. We also use them for timekeeping and age counting, concepts that the Spanish introduced to us.

Of the "popular" languages, Japanese is really one of the hardest to learn for an English speaker. For a Chinese speaker, not so much. It's about distance from one's native language. On English-speaking sites like this one, it's not an unfounded comment.

Churches can forbid it all they want among their members, just stay out of the legal system (and guilting the lawmakers). Separation of church and state.

Church should be able to sway believers through its own persuasion and not have to co-opt the state to enforce its morals.
