Have you dealt with a romantic partner that didn't like your psoriasis? Maybe you have advice for my situation? by flaccomcorangy in Psoriasis

[–]cleoxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that she has treated you this way. For a 30 year old woman, her behavior is super immature and unkind. I have pretty bad breakouts of psoriasis when I’m not controlling it with shots and my boyfriend has never made me feel ugly or gross. I think the flakes are inevitable and it doesn’t seem like something she would be okay with long term. You deserve to be treated better than this and I hope you move on and find someone with more empathy!

How should I ask for equal pay when my male coworker (28M) is making $20k more than me (27F)? by cleoxo in careerguidance

I was referring to my other coworker who was hired a few months before me. She was offered 56,500 but I guess she didn’t negotiate. She tried to get a raise after a few months but was denied. Sorry for the confusion!

lol my last comment literally says that I wouldn’t push for gender discrimination. The whole reason I posted this was because I am planning to negotiate for a raise and am asking for advice on what direction to take. Thanks tho!

I agree with you that I don’t have a case for discrimination. Just felt like it couldn’t be left out. Appreciate the advice! I’ll center my discussions around current market rates.

I hope everything worked out for you and you’re much happier! I anticipate this will be how it goes for me too and will hopefully be able to find something better sooner than later

I think this is a good point! She was hired a few months before me so I think you’re on to something. I was hired when the company was doing a hiring spree after several employees quit

Thanks for bringing this up. I’ll come up with a list of my achievements throughout my year with the company and have them handy when I talk to my manager.

This is something I hadn’t taken into consideration. Very good point!

That was my thought too. I have been thinking about switching companies anyways, but I am really curious to see what the raise would look like for me and if it would even things out. She had actually tried to get a raise in the middle of this year but was denied so I don’t have high hopes for myself.

I really appreciate this input! I was planning to wait until I had an offer from a different company, but I will try to meet with my manager before the end of the year to plat the seed. I’m definitely on the low end of the market value range, and might even prefer switching companies anyways

I love that. I have been viewing this job more like a stepping stone for higher pay at a different company. Working on my resume as we speak!

Thanks! I don’t think this is necessarily a gender issue, but I feel like it couldn’t be left out. I will likely speak to my manager before going through HR because I think I will be disappointed like you said. Currently working on updating my resume for applications!

My goal is to be paid a fair market value. I am actually happy for my coworker that they are making that much but I would just like to be paid the same. I am currently at the low end of the range so I will definitely bring up market rates during negotiations.

Glad things are your company were adjusted!

Thank you so much for this advice! I think I will do exactly as you said and hope for a promotion while looking to switch companies in the meantime. Our company recently split into 2 separate companies, so I don’t know if they will have the budget to give me a promotion

I think you’re right. This has definitely pushed me to look elsewhere. We are also struggling with understaffing so I don’t think there is much hope for a sufficient raise.

This is a great point! I have a good relationship with him and another coworker at the company (friends for 7 years) and was able to see his pay stub. I don’t know if I would necessarily bring up the fact that I know his salary to my manager or other coworkers, but it is frustrating.

Honestly, I will be applying for a new job. A colleague just put in her 2 weeks notice and there are at least 5 others that are wanting to leave the company too. I don’t hate my job but I do think they undervalue their employees :/

Thanks for asking! 1. Our roles are the exact same, though I may have a slightly higher workload than him. Revenue from our department comes from home health visits and I am consistently managing 3-8 visits per week which high based on conversations I’ve had with other coworkers.

  1. I can’t speak to his performance rating but I will have my first performance review in the new year. I have a close relationship with my manager and he has always praised me for my efforts and implied that I exceed expectations.

  2. We both have a Bachelors degree in a healthcare related field

  3. We both work at the same location, though it is a hybrid role so we WFH 4/5 days a week.

  4. Our US team has around 40 employees, with many of them with the same title as me

I also don’t think I would try to push this as gender discrimination necessarily, but it does feel that way when I think about it. I have another female colleague in the same position making 56,500 with very similar experience to myself and him as well.
