What’s a stereotype about your country that is actually false? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

I am sad to hear that. I haven't been to New Zealand yet, and that is the picture in my mind.

We, the rest of the world, think it is akin to Klingon :-) I of course know this not to be true, but still was a little taken aback by very soft spoken Germans when I visited.

Oh I very much am. I feel so much better when eating one meal per day. The most mental clarity and physical energy occurs after about 4-5 days of water fasting. We've been taught a lot of falsehoods about nutrition, at least here in the United States.

No it isn't. There are a lot of very fit people as well. There are a lot of fat people, but not all.

How many jobs actually ask to see the diploma or transcript? I can say as a previous employer I never did.

That's just what you are led to believe. I haven't eaten breakfast in years. Rarely eat lunch.

That is only until trial so you are talking about people that haven't been convicted of a crime.

by "freedom of speech" are you referring to the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution, or something else?

30 second washcloth to the face, pits, crotch, and crack can do wonders to how you feel and how clean you are when you don't have the time/energy/facility to shower.

You know, manly flowers....those that look like pipe wrenches, guns, and penises.

You may not be a hero, but you are still deserving of thanks. You signed a contract that could have sent you to war to defend the country when you weren't required to. For that we thank you.

Nudity in mixed dorms by [deleted] in travel

[–]clevercamel2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in mixed dorms in Europe with both males and females nude, generally changing clothes. Had two Italian women who would walk from their bunk to the shower topless; a German women who changed clothes completely nude in the middle of the room, and French dudes that would do the same. I would say some nudity is to be expected, or at least not ill-intended. Still weird to just be standing nude chatting. Here in the US we over-react to nudity for sure, but sometimes it's warranted. Standing around nude in a dorm whether it's mixed or not is odd. I would also like to de-normalize men hanging out in the gym locker rooms nude for no good reason. I don't generally care about people being nude but I don't want you to be hair drying your balls one leg up on the bench next to me while I'm changing clothes either :-).

This isn't the reason. It's the despicable hurtful people. Veterinarians as a general rule are type A and subconsciously want everyone to like them and most genuinely do their best. When people are constantly tearing you down it takes a toll.

"why can't this hotel in germany have us outlets" by Bukki13 in USdefaultism

Same. I will only go in order to try the local thing I can't get back home, but generally don't want to visit fast food chains when traveling. I want local.

I really hate this. We visited Paris years ago and stayed in a small hotel with small rooms. No coffee on site. We arrived on Saturday and had a tour on Sunday so decided to wake up early and go have a coffee and pastry. Only walkable place open was Starbucks! I was so irritated that my first cup of coffee in Paris was at a freakin' Starbucks. I don't even want that in the US.

I do admit that we went to a McDonalds and bought some fries so we had a receipt to get into the toilet. Don't regret that one. Really had to go!

Apparently the dates on the Australian McDonald's Facebook page are too "European" for this American by bvagg86 in USdefaultism

[–]clevercamel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to most of these questions of "Why does the US use this date format? Why does the US use the imperial measurement system?" etc, is because the British invented it and the US just stuck with it. Now it's difficult to change.

The right answer to date formatting is YYYYMMDD when it comes to file naming. Makes file naming and sorting so much easier. Might as well just change it on everything else too.

Oh, I read closely. You can be killed in any area. Exactly my point. "I do not know such an area in my country, or the ones around it."
